Hey all,

I'm building out a .22LR and was looking at the Harris as well as the Atlas bipods. I purchased both and am considering both... but I ran into a little speed bump. I ordered them from Amazon (free sheeping, etc and I can get it quickly). However, it seems that the Harris came in brand new condition, but the Atlas looks like it might have been a previous return.

It's not substantially beat up... but I'm worried that since it might have been a return it might be defective and a long time shooter might have returned. It's oiled in the joints (one I saw previously wasn't I think). When you grasp both legs and wiggle a little bit there is a touch of play on the legs (both in up and down position). I want to make sure that I don't set myself up to spend $220 (before shipping) on a used / defective product.

Could somebody that has an Atlas let me know if having a little play in the legs is normal and when I load it that'll go away and this is all conditions normal?

There is a little play for and aft but non up and down (along the telescoping legs) but not sure how much play yours has. With my rifle on a table, holding the butt stock. With the rifle full aft, then push forward I have 1/4" of deflection at the muzzle.


Anyway, you purchased your items from Amazon, they back up any purchase and all you do is request an exchange. Their customer service has always been spot on for me. If you feel you received a used Item, submit a claim.

Trust your gut. If you suspect its used or a return, then it is. Let Amazon know. They'll make it right.

BTW, for a 22lr, I'd go with the Harris as opposed to a $220 bipod. Use the savings on better glass. My 2 cents.

Some play in the legs is fine. Oil on the cant adjustment system is NOT ok because it will be loose no matter what. If someone put oil there and returned it I would send it back and get a new one.

Mine has some play in the legs. I think it is normal for the Atlas. But as Toast said.. "Trust your gut".
If it bothers you then return it. Otherwise use it as the tool it was made to be.

Thanks for that feedback guys. I'll probably return and either keep the Harris or go with a site where I'm relatively confident they're not sending me our refurb units or what not.

Toast - the optic piece I went with is the 4-16x50 Millett piece. Millett Sights - Tactical Rifle Scope with the .1m click adjustments.

The scope cost approx $300... if I was to keep the $$ from the difference ($130) of the bipods, is there a scope that would be a dramatic benefit that was less than $450 if I returned my Millett?

Thanks for that information... I didn't realize the difference between the FFP and the SFP. The Millett having an SFP makes it relatively worthless to me from the thread I was just reading after you gave me that heads up to consider alternatives. Ouch!

The Vortex looks great, but I'm just now stepping into this and probably wouldn't be able to drop $700 on a scope when I'm building out everything right now (likely $1.1k or so total). Especially on a trainer, haha.

The BSA looks very interesting. So that will be more similar to a higher end scope that I would likely step up to once I've done some time building my skills? It's actually more affordable than my Millett, so some additional savings there that I could dump into more ammo wouldn't be a negative.

Nothing wrong with SFP! Lots of top shooters run SFP scopes (e.g. most Nightforce are SFP). But since I run FFP scopes on my centerfire rifles, I wanted a trainer scope that was as similar as possible.

To be clear: the BSA scope is crap in comparison to the PST. The turrets are mushy and don't line up properly half the time. But, it's no crappier than the Millett, and might actually be better. The reticle is a big selling point for me:

A bunch of the guys I shoot with have bought these for their rimfire tactical trainers and I haven't heard any complaints yet. You just have to be realistic about the quality.

Also, you might as well figure out whether you like FFP without dropping $2k on a scope. At this stage, it makes more sense to try things without making a massive investment.

Cole - nice pic, your trainer looks great. Could you tell me what picatinny rail and rings you're using? I picked up the DIP 11mm dovetail to picatinny... But the 30mm AR-PEPR that i purchased doesn't actually fit it.

I was hoping to use the picatinny rail and a quick mount on the rings.. And it looks like yours would work great.

I was going to post this also. I don't know if you can get the "real" atlas from amazon. From my experience it was prob the china knock off.

Thanks for the info on that. It didn't seem like a horrible product, but it felt a touch different than others I've seen. I just returned it and figured I'd go with the Harris and I can concern myself with spending 3x more on the bipod for my next rifle. I'll likely just buy direct from authorized dealers going forward so I don't end up with junk.

Make sure to buy a -20moa rail. With my BSA scope that gives me +16.4mils of elevation for a 50 yard zero, enough to reach 300 - 350 yds.

I'm using the DIP 25 MOA rail and SWFA high rings, although I should have used mediums (I already had the highs). I have enough adjustment to dial to 325yds+ so far.

Just a quick "atta boy" for Atlas and B&T Enterprises. I sent mine in for repair due to my own mistake and I received it back within a week and no charge. Service doesn't get any better than what this company provides.
