Atlas PSR vs 5H vs CAL Gen II - help me pick a new bipod

OK I recently sold a gun that I wasnt using and have freed up some money. I want to upgrade from my Harris swivel/notch/podloc 6-9
my shooting style is mixed. some from a bench and some club PRS matches, some random field shooting. I want a bipod that is more stable/repeatable across a variety of surfaces and positions

the rifle is a mausingfield 308 win, 24" Rem/Varm barrel in a KRG xray chassis

I have my eyes on an Atlas of some sort (unless the consensus is overwhelming in another direction (Ckye/tubb/LRA))

i am really interested in the 5H, seems like the most stable, but it is the heaviest, widest when folded and deployed so i might not want to use it hunting and it might not always work for PRS, It is also most expensive

the PSR comes in a taller version (BT47), is widely used, versatile, possibly least stable of the choices

Gen 2 CAL - untested, i can't find a shipping date, cheapest, should work for most applications

when deciding, if I go with the PSR is it worth getting the taller bipod, i shoot prone with my harris two notches up, seems the BT47 should fit me well.
I want a more stable bipod that I don't look at in two years and think "I should have gotten _____ instead"
my harris works prone on dirt/grass or other grippy surfaces, but kicks my butt on slick surfaces/benches etc.

If you like the 5-H, then take a hard look at the CAL. It’s the second widest of the Atlas family and very stable. I think you’d like it. Cheaper than the 5-H for a lot of stability

I have always used ATLAS and still do on many rifles but I moved from the 5H to the Elite Iron on my AI AT. I really like it.

If you decide to go the 5H route and don't want to pay for a new one, I have one that I haven't put up for sale yet.

Ok so the 5h is out, the psr is our, ill just pay for a ckye if I’m not trying to save money

It’s down to a ckye pod or a gen 2 Cal.

Ckye is super versatile, what has better stability/accuracy potential based on y’alls collective knowledge

My $.02:

PRS = Ckye, the versatility is just so darn handy
Prone = Elite Iron or Atlas Cal. Elite is the most solid, but it's too damn heavy for anything other than a square range. Never liked the 5H pan myself.
Accuracy = any of them. There is no difference

Picked up a Ckye-Pod myself. Went back and forth on the cost vs. the Atlas, but the versatility is second to none with the almost endless positions you can put the legs in. Also like how they have the taller legs but allow you to spread them out to get lower if needed.

I'm in a similar position to you, have a couple Harris 6-9s with all the add-ons (spikes, pod lock, Atlas adapters, RRS pic/arca mounts) but want a 3rd bipod and it's between the Ckye-pod and the Cal. As it stands, I'm leaning towards the Ckye-pod. I shoot a decent amount of PRS matches and field matches (RTC) and I think the versatility of the Ckye-pod makes it a better choice for me. Just need to pry open my wallet, haha

Just ordered a Ckye pod. what sold me was the fact it was not absurdly more expensive than the atlas PSR but is more adjustable and the ATLAS Cal gen 2 delivery date is unsure. I hope to use this in a 15 december local match. I will try to get some video of it in use and attempt a review in Dec/Jan. if everything works out i should shoot 2 local matches and spend some time on a bench during that time-frame. there is not much info on these "in the wild" so I'll try to put something together/out there.

Went with the regular version myself. I wasn't aware of the pan lock version until after I received it.

While I was hoping you'd choose an Atlas, I'm honored that 3 of your 7 considerations were Atlas products. I've never held a Cyke bipod, but from what I have seen, it is a truely unique bipod that doesnt infringe on others patents, so good on them for actully bringing something new to the sport!

I really like my CAL G1 for about 85% of what I do, and that is what stays on my precision rifle. But I do switch out for one of my Harris bipods if I am dealing with obstacles on a timed stage in a match as the Harris folds up and deploys a little faster and easier for me. I Voted CAL G2

Elite iron. It’s a solid, well built and highly functional piece of gear. It’s also modular, so if it falls out a truck (you might have bigger worries) but you can easily change out the part that’s not right. You get what you pay for here. I mean it’s in a class by itself. I’ll keep running the atlas on my 22 platforms but will be lettin the rest the atlas bipods go.

I received my Ckye yesterday. Just playing around with it makes you realize just how versatile it is. Well worth the extra $ over the PSR.

I have both the ckye and gen 1 cal, as well as Harris. I think for most shooting I prefer the cal. The ckye is awesome for the amount of movement and adjustment it has but that also means more buttons and stuff to move. I prefer the push button leg movement of the atlas over the pull down tab on the ckye. I like the pull down leg extension on the ckye better than the atlas collar but still like the atlas.

For normal shooting such as bench or prone the atlas cal I feel is all you need, I actually prefer it. For the little bit of prs I have done so far the ckye is better.

I’m looking forward to sending my cal in to get updated to the gen2 to fix the cant adjustment.

I just bought my first Atlas today. I told the guy I wanted the PSR, he picked up the CAL inadvertently. I didnt pay attention until I got home and realized that there wasnt any planning going on.

I really dont know which one to get. I am new to long range and would like to be able to use the rifle for PRS down the road. I dont presently hunt but would like the option as well. I assume that if I ever intend to shoot a moving target the panning would be a requirement?
On the other hand I have read that the panning can cause the legs to go wonky and mess with stability.

Ugggh....please help a brother out

I shoot moving targets all the time with no pan bipods.

It’s a personal preference, but I have no need for pan.

First off if you want the PSR then go return the CAL and get the PSR... seriously you should get what you want. Now in the practical world, it really isn't going to make much difference, the CAL can pan, the legs just move with the rifle (slide on the dirt).

Thanks for that. And I understand that panning can be achieved by torquing on the legs/dragging through the dirt. I actually just assumed that cant lock was mostly intended for a static target. I'm well aware that my noob flag is flying high when it comes to bipod shooting....ultimately I'm just not sure what causes people to develop a preference between the two and how to match that info with what I think I want.

If it’s financially possible, but both. Then either keep the one you use less for a backup, or sell it on here for a very small loss. They hold their value well.

I have the PSR, not knowing anything about bipods just chose the most popular one at the time from reading random blogs. It seems like if I had to do it all over again, maybe the TBAC Bipod would be the best. I like the fact with the TBAC I can deploy it quicker than the PSR/CAL.

Regarding the PSR, I don't think I ever pan with it, so I was considering getting the CAL Gen 2 because it's easier to lock down the cant than that knob underneath the PSR. That knob is kind of annoying to turn & reach... Right now my PSR has a leg that won't lock when fully retracted, so it's getting RMA'd, but if you want to trade let me know.

I have a Cal with zero Regrets. It's not hard to pan inbetween targets at all. I haven't used it on any barricades, just my mat and the bench. I've tried the psr and another bipod with pan and wasn't a fan. Cal feels much more stable.

I like the Sierra 7 that I run on my 338 Lapua Imp. for a folding Bi-pod and the Sinclair Gen II fixed F-class Bi-pod if I'm shooting an event where a fixed bi-pod is allowed. - have heard good things about the Phoenix Bi-Pod as well which is a fixed type detachable Bi-Pod.
