Scabbard/Sleeve (can be bulky or heavy), or
Use the compression straps for font or side carry (can be quick but awkward depending on pack), or
Stick as many feet in a side waterbottle sleeve that will fit and add a top strap to the side molle or use the compression straps (what I do right now).
Where there's a will there's a way.
Or get a pack designed for tripod carry, depending on what you're planning on doing, like the Kuiu series.

Depends on what kind of pack you have I guess. Mine has long pockets along the side, maybe for hydration bladders or such. I just slide the tripod as far down as I can and it rides very well.
