Auto Tricker V3

I have been doing a ton of research on different powder devices. I know that the new RCBS unit came out and it is less than the V3, but less accurate. I have been told by some people that the V3 requires a lot of additional components to work properly. I am wondering how many people have the stock V3. Of those people, do you wish you could upgrade something on it? Those of you that did do an upgrade--did it really make much of a difference.

The only upgrade I use on V3 is the clear lid from area 419.

it needs nothing else and works perfectly.

I’m betting whoever told you it needs more things either owns a v2 or doesn’t own a v3.

Agree with Dthomas3523. The V3, like the V2 before it, can be a little nicer to run with some of the after market upgrades, but it's 100% functional as delivered.

I did some A419 upgrades to make my upgraded V2 to V3 auto throw/trickle a little nicer to use, but I used the V2 in stock configuration the entire time I had it.

I'm using a full V3 kit for H4350 and Varget with zero issues maintaining 5fps SD,s or better. I'm at 3.1 for my 6.5x47L with varget. Throws consistent charges under 10 seconds with +/- 1 kernel accuracy or +/- 0.04 GN. I had 2 over throws of 0.06 GN out of 50 just this weekend.
The V3 set up runs great as it comes and you don't actually NEED to upgrade anything, most upgrades are 95% bling and 5% performance increase.

If you have the means go for it, its a great unit and you'll love it.

The lid seems like a clear winner (pun intended). I'm planning to do the trickler base, as well, just based on feedback I've gotten from a couple friends using the V3, but reports do seem to support that the V3 base is useful as-is. As long as powder isn't jumping out of the V3 cup, no real need to upgrade that, except for the bling factor.

Except the hopper and the straw baffle, I have all the 419 upgrades and used them on my v2.

I only use the clear lid now on both of my v3 setups. I haven’t seen any noticeable difference when I stopped using the trickler base.

I can absolutely say that I had issues with the zero changing with the 419 auto centering base. It would randomly be .06-10 off zero without any air flow or loose kernels involved.

I switched back to the plate included with the fx scale and the issue went away.

I would 100% buy the Area 419 lexan lid for the scale...the normal lid for the scale is so flimsy...and the Autothrow has a shocking amount of heft to it

Plus it’s super nice being able to see into the unit without leaning over

The V3 powder cup works great. I have yet to get a single kernel spilled from bouncing out of the cup

Clear plastic scale lid / top from Area 419 is all you need to upgrade on the V3.

Powder swap is easy but having a small paint brush or similar isn’t a bad idea for kernels that stick to the trickler

I thought about ordering the Area 419 Pyrex hopper to make switching powder easier. Anyone have any input on that? Also what do you think about their upgraded trickler mount.

I upgraded a v2 to v3 and I don’t use the 419 trickler base anymore. The v3 is really easy to adjust/tune with the wheel leg thing.

I also just use the V3 hoppers. If I switch powder, I dump it all back into keg, wipe out with dry towel and then dump new powder in.

Seen too many people at range with varget when should be 4350 or vice versa because they forgot to change out or used the wrong hopper. Swapping it manually cuts down my chances of that.

The V3 trickler base operates just fine, no need to upgrade. Also the v3 hopper works just fine, again no need to upgrade. I've only upgraded the A&D scale plastic top to the Area 419 clear acrylic top so you can see what you are doing...... Just wait you will see for yourself.... Other than that no upgrades are needed.

I run a Version 3 with the Area 419 enhancements. I also run the Area 419 Hoppers. They are double the size of the standard hopper, so far less time wasted refilling when doing larger batches.
I LOVE the Bluetooth connectivity. It makes the load development ladders a breeze.
I went to the AutoTrickler from the RCBS Chargemaster 1500. It was accurate, but really slow in comparison. I can load 50 rounds from seating primers to in the box in 45 minutes. Before it was a couple of hours.
So bottom-line...
Buy it, you will not be disappointed.

I have three hoppers (four if you count the V2 cheapie one), and it's way overkill. You spend more time cleaning out the mount, then it takes to dump out the hopper. That being said, I still like having the extra hoppers, but it's more of a bling thing than anything else....

Another thing I did, was to take a piece of left over granite (18x18) smoothed the edges and set my V3 on that. It weighs about 15-20 pounds and adds stability.

I’m using the V3 with 419 upgrades and like the system. I’ve also attached an old cellphone to the wall to be a dedicated keypad control.
