    Gentlemen, again, my memory issue kicks to the forefront. A Long Time Ago, in a thread far, far away..... somebody had asked to see the photograph that I have of the actual Avro Arrow. It is signed by the test pilot. I was hanging prominently on one of the walls in our house, before my SpiritsMaster, Chief Entertainment Coordinator, and Vice-Chair of the Budget Committee decided that some changes needed to be made, furniture and shelving units needed to be moved, and the torturous like that you're all familiar with.

    So, said picture got taken down (ONLY so that it would be safe, protected, and NEVER put in danger of ill effects) but the problem is, neither of us could remember where we put if for safe-keeping. She found it today (when looking for a photo-album [[in another thread]] ) and here is a quick snap of that one, too.

    Again, if you want a 'gooder' photo of it, I can bring out the proper lighting, tripod, and macro lense, to do it justice. But you'll have to hook me up in a PM for this. As it is, these 'quick shots' I'm taking here still have to be resized to 25%, simply because the site can't handle the file size. Other arrangements would have to be made.

    Phenomenal story behind the Avro. Speaking as an overly-patriotic American... it kicked the butt of anything we were working on at the time. And would have set the bar for fighter/interceptor for the era if it had not been killed. A lot of behind-the-scenes shennanigans on that one. Because the Avro team hit it out of the park.

    I heard a few years ago that divers had found the aerodynamics models in the bottom of Lake Ontario and raised a few. Used the same range that Gerald Bull (another amazing Canuckian) used to test the BoMark and his supergun.

    Great photo! An amazing time in history. One of those times when the U.S. Tactical Air Command (or whatever they were called) should have listened to the Canadian Aero industry. Because we would have had an awesome fighter/interceptor. The TFX was a joke. Well... it became the FB111.. which did adequately. But it was a perfect example of McNamara's meddling in Air Force/Navy procurement and thinking that "Just because my boys designed the Pinto... we can create a better plane than LeMay" come to pass. That said, the 'Vark crews were pretty high-speed. It was said that if they didn't come back from a mission with leaves in their induction ports and bark on their lower halves... they had flubbed the mission..

    Sorry for rambling... watch the CBC movie. It's worth it. And this is from a guy who thinks that CBC means "Chinese Born Canadian." Well, I did like Hockey Night in Canada, The Howie Meeker Hockey School, Nick and Relic from The Beachcombers and, well, the Littlest Hobo was funny in a German Shephard sort of way. Oh, yeah, and The Royal Canadian Air Farce. Those dudes were funny. And Super Dave.

    Ok... enough rambling. This is what I get for living within broadcast range of Canadian Propaganda stations like Montreal 6 and 12. Not to mention the Frog-speaking ones.
