This may be a dumb question (probably is), but is there any purpose in fluting the bolt other than looks?

The only dumb question is the one that is not ask - dont ever let anyone intimidate You into not asking a question You need an answer to!!!!!

Bolt fluting gives dirt, dust, grime etc. etc. a place to go other than binding up ( and even scoring-engraving-scratching ) the bolt in the boltways of the receiver!!
