AXMC 300 Norma Mag feeding issues with Norma factory 230 Berger Hybrid ammo

So I've been trying out some different ammo and the 230 Bergers shoot lights out in my AXMC. While they fit in the magazine, they don't
feed very well and the tip of the bullet seems to hang up coming out of the mag. Does anyone else have a similar problem or a possible
fix for this?

yeah... norma box ammo not custom reloads... they shoot awesome for factory stuff, just don't feed worth a crap

Dumb question are the rounds fully seated to rear? I'm interested in seeing a pic of a loaded mag top down too? I am thinking ai is throating their 300 Norma barrels short. I called to ask how much freebore they have and was told it's proprietary and drawings are not disclosed...

@Huskydriver ok... finally got some pics... rounds fit in the mag well. It looks like the tip is hitting the bottom edge of
the feed ramp... I guess I could polish it a little bit. Or can I use a 300wm magazine? The rounds fit well in it.

I thought the 300 Norma was better at feeding through a 338 lm mag but could be wrong as I have not done it yet. So just to confirm the pics are of 300 Norma in a ai 300wm mag correct?

I no longer have the AXMC but it seems to me that my mag sat slightly higher that yours. My AXMC feed the same factory ammo you are using and it fed like butter - and it also was amazingly accurate.

If I were you I would try a different magazine.

Either will feed them, but the 338LM magazine is a bit more reliable for these.

You might want to dedicate mags for 300NM since you are going to have to tweak the feed lips on these. Rear lips closer together and down. Front you may have a tweak up slightly (mind the bolt plus clearance). Just enough to get the bullet pointed more towards the chamber. Still going to rub slightly but it's not going to be detrimental to anything.

MileHigh also sells a dedicated 300NM magazine. Not sure if it's really different or just stamped "338NM" on it (same parent case - 300NM, 338NM, 338LM).

If you look really closely at that feed ramp, you will see its actually a 2 part design, and there is a 'joint' where the 2 pieces come together (piece #1 is the feed ramp, piece #2 is the breach ring) That 'joint' formed a lip (i.e. it wasn't smooth) in mine, and the nose of the bullet would get hung up on that lip. Need to polish that joint. Mile High did it for me.

Looks like the metal they used didn't hold the edge and fracture off, looks like thats a casting.

I'm thinking when I jammed the tip of the bullet into that square lip and it mushroomed out, it broke off that
sharp little edge on the feed ramp...

Ouch... looks like the tip of the feed ramp cut on the receiver has chipped away exposing the edge of the breech ring which is hanging up the bullet tips. Looks like there's a smaller chip on the RH feed ramp cut too.

That could probably all be smoothed and polished with a cratex wheel or a very fine round file to fix the feeding issues without negatively effecting the strength of the breech ring or surrounding receiver material, but good luck getting decent access to it without debonding the receiver from the chassis to be able to work up through the magazine cutout.

Before I did anything I'd give Mile High or AINA a call and send them some good pictures and see if they have any suggestions...

If it new I would return it for another because to properly grind that feed ramp you need to remove the receiver from the chassis to maintain the proper angle while grinding down until the chipped area is removed. The only other suggestion would be to use epoxy to fill in the area if it would even hold up. The receiver is steel so its strange that it chipped away like that unless if it was harden and had a defect in the steel. You could have it grounded out and the firing of the rifle could make it chip again in that area if the steel has a defect in that area.
If its common among other AI owners then its just how its designed ,if its not common then they should warranty the rifle and replace the receiver for you.

Where did this picture come from? Was this posted after my magazine feed lip mod comment? I didn't see this originally otherwise my statement would have been entirely different as to your course of action. If they were posted then I just didn't see it.

the top part of my feed ramps cracked off and the bullet tip was hitting the flat face of the receiver causing the jam,
AI replaced my receiver in about 2 weeks and got my gun back to me... check your mag adapter and the feed ramp
area like in my pics that are posted above.

I don't think epoxy would hold up... looks like yours aren't broken like mine were, but looks like there is not
a smooth transition across the feed ramp... you might contact AI or Mile High and see what they think
