AXMC SFP bolt shroud assembly question, same lugs as LFP bolt shroud assembly?

Question for AXMC shooters that have the new factory AI small firing pin bolts or have swapped their LFP bolts to SFP bolts:

I know the firing pin itself is obviously different, but is the firing pin shroud assembly (the part containing the safety lever that locks into the bolt body) the same between the LFP and SFP?

I'm hoping I can keep my existing serialized LFP bolt shroud and just buy a new small firing pin and swap the current large firing pin for small firing pin. It's an easy swap, 2 set screws, reset firing pin protrusion, done. I really don't want to spend $500+ on an complete SFP bolt shroud assembly if I don't have to if I can simply swap a $100ish small firing pin onto my existing bolt shroud.

Reason I'm asking if I'm wondering if AI did something silly like change the size or shape or spacing of the SFP bolt shroud bayonet lugs so you can't stick an SFP bolt shroud assembly into an LFP bolt body or vice versa. I don't have a factory AXMC SFP bolt or SFP bolt shroud assembly on hand to check.

Have the bolt sent out and your firing pin turned down to size

I already had my LFP bolts bushed by LRI, but for some reason I want to change to the factory SFP bolts because of the arguably better design of the AI firing pin (a much shorter length of the smallest diameter portion of the firing pin compared to my LRI bushed bolts which have a rather long but fully supported small diameter tip, similar to a factory R700.)

I just remembered I recently snagged a factory 308 1.6mm small firing pin bolt body off the PX here... I'm going to pull the LRI turned down firing pin out of my LFP bolt shroud assembly and see if the shroud will lock into the new 308 AI factory 1.6mm SFP bolt body. If the shroud will physically work, I just need to call Mile High and order a 1.6mm firing pin.

Being LH, I can't purchase an SFP assembly for my MC. However, I have seen the AI SFP bolt body and do not believe that it was any different in how it connects to the shroud assembly.

A quick call to MHS will get you an answer.
 
Just tested it, my LFP shroud and LRI bushed firing pin locked right into my factory AI 1.6mm SFP 308 bolt, so the shroud is the same between factory AI SFP and LFP bolts.

I'll order the new 1.6mm SFP 300wm bolt right now to lock in the good black Friday price and then call mile high on Monday to order 2x factory 1.6mm firing pins.

Of course the 1.6mm lapua bolts are out of stock now, they were in stock 2 weeks ago... Lol
 
And now for your typical story regarding AI spare parts availability... Mile High just told me they cannot source only the 1.6mm firing pin as AI doesn't even have a part number for it by itself, so instead of buying a $100 firing pin you have to buy the entire $560 1.6mm firing pin and shroud assembly. I asked how AI would send them parts if say someone damaged their 1.6mm firing pin from a pierced primer and needed just a new firing pin, and they said they would probably have to get the entire shroud assembly. That seems really overkill.

I simultaneously love and hate AI. I like how they are built and how they shoot but stupid stuff like this makes me worry about parts support down the road and makes me think about selling all 3 of them...

Does anyone by chance know of a SFP Lapua bolt, or SFP bolt assembly(and shroud) for sale?
I called MH, and didn't really get much help of any sort of ETA, same with Eurooptic.

Unless you can find a member here who wants to part with one, both Mile High and Euro are out of stock of the 338L 1.6mm bolts right now, best bet is to put one on backorder and prepare for a long wait. I was signed up for a back in stock notification on a 338L 1.6mm bolt at Euro and they emailed me late last week saying they were emailing everyone who signed up for back in stock notifications on AI parts and would do 20% down on all AI backorders to reserve the parts, you might want to email or call them. Which reminds me, they still haven't responded to my email. Brandon is the one from Euro Optic who sent that email.

Right now in the US the only way to get the AXMC 1.6mm SFP from Euro Optic or Mile High is to buy either the AXMC 308 SFP bolt assembly #28340 or the AXMC 1.6mm firing pin and shroud assembly #27783. Euro only has the complete 1.6mm 308 bolt in stock right now, while Mile High has both the 1.6mm firing pin and shroud assembly as well as the complete 1.6mm SFP 308 bolt assembly in stock.

When I tried to order just the 1.6mm SFP for my existing bolt shroud from both Euro and Mile High back in December I was told that AINA does not have a part number to order the 1.6mm firing pin by itself and both Mile High and Euro told me I would have to buy #28340 or #27783 to get the 1.6mm firing pin. However, I was able to work through Sporting Services UK and after over a week of back and forth with AI UK, Sporting Services managed to get AI UK to create a new part number in the system to order just the AXMC 1.6mm firing pin by itself (apparently it never had a separate part number on their breakdown sheets before, which is why Mile High said they couldn't get a part number to order just the bare 1.6mm firing pin from AINA.) The first batch of AXMC 1.6mm bare firing pins that Sporting Services has ordered are spoken for between myself and another member here, but the Sporting Services crew would be willing to order more-- just expect a minimum 16 week wait or so.

I put down 20% on an AXMC LH bolt body at EO and waited for 18 months. I applied the deposit to something else.

I hope you have better luck

I think we might experience the heat death of the universe before AI fulfills a backorder for LH AXMC bolts... Only somewhat joking.

Euro had a 338L 1.6mm AXMC bolt in stock in January and I thought "I should order that" and 2 days later when I went to order it was out of stock. I'm hoping I might be able to get one later this year, but we'll see. I'm sure making parts for a an older rifle that's pretty much discontinued at this point is low on AIs production priority, and I have nobody to blame but myself for not ordering when it was in stock.

I miss the days when AI kept the same rifle designs for 25+ years with only minor changes. Nowadays it seems like they make new designs every few years that are no longer backwards compatible with the old designs that offer minimal to no real advantages over the old designs.

They're still better than Sako, however, not by much anymore.

I just spent $300 on a spare firing pin assembly and extractor/ejector kit for my TRG-42 just to have them since the only way to get a spare bolt is to send the rifle into Beretta to have one "fitted" now according to Euro Optic.

I ordered a Mag bolt for now. I suppose ill shoot 300 PRC. Called MH a few times, just got a return call that it would take a year to get one.
Think i might just get a LFP version someday, have it bushed down and deal with it.
 
If you want it faster, bushing an LFP bolt and turning down a firing pin you already have or is in stock for immediate shipment will be much faster than waiting for an AI backorder.

Keep in mind the bushed LFP bolts and turned down firing pins are not compatible with the factory 1.6mm bolts and 1.6mm firing pins because of the added length of the bushing protruding into the bolt head, so if you want to be able to swap a single firing pin assembly between all 3 bolt bodies you either need to go all 3 bushed or all 3 factory AI 1.6mm.

Yep, i figured if i go this route I'm going to have a total separate assembly. I have a .308 bolt and SFP coming with the AXMC, and ordered a SFP MAG bolt from Milehigh. So whenever i want more performance over the 300prc, that's more than likely what ill do. Wait for a used one to pop up maybe...Really sucks. When they get $800 for a bolt, you would think they would be trying to get rid of them ASAP. Talk about some profit...Good for them, but it would be better if they had stock...

You'll be waiting for an eternity.

They are busy enough that spare parts are a nuisance and take up valuable manufacturing time. I was told they would run it if a dealer ordered 100 bolts. Not sure if that is BS or not.
