Hello yall! Comin from Phoenix AZ ☉, finally got my hands on my setup, decided to go with a tikka ctr 308. i wanted the harder caliber to learn on and i truly love it. Optics is swfa 16x42 w/ precision match vortex rings (low). My goal is taking it to 800 yrds. I enjoy the patience and time this skill takes. before i joined i been reading many of you pros info on here and the info you guys share is truly helpful so my first forum Ive been a part of. Fav round Ive experimented so far is about 155gr from 100-200 yrd only dropped .75moa but thats as far as iv got havent built my personal drop chart or anything. Thanks again to this community for helpin us out

Probably be a month or three before I make it to another, I have a LOT on my plate right now. So just occasional range trips for a short while. I’ll be hitting the matches hard after that, though!

@LH_Gina is who you want to talk to. As far as I know, the club doesn’t run classes, though we did do a two-day thing last year where day one was a train-up and day two was the competition.

That having been said, just show up. The only thing REQUIRED of you is that you have a safety mindset. The club is huge on that, which I actually like. Aside from that, show up and shoot! That’s what I did. I’ve never had any formal training with precision rifles, and I still do OK and have a great time. Everybody’s always very welcoming and helpful. If you’re not being stupid/unsafe, newcomers are always welcome! Show up, learn while you shoot, and get to know people. That’s how most of us get started. You’ll be in good company. ;)

For that matter, you can show up just to watch and learn how to help RO. The first time I went, I just showed and spectated, and still had a good time. That’s always welcomed, too. But getting outside your comfort zone in any regard will be your biggest help. Show up, offer to help run a timer, score pad, or spotting scope, and start meeting people. Rifle not required (though shooting is usually more fun that just watching)!

@Hjlewis welcome! As @Basher said, come on out to a competition and spectate. We're totally cool with that. Each squad has at least two pro/semi pro shooters so every squad has someone to help coach. Totally cool if you're not quite ready to jump in to the competition side. We've been talking about doing another clinic/match weekend, but it probably won't be until the weather cools off so maybe October/November. For the clinics we've done, we have experienced shooters staged at a variety of shooting props to demonstrate and explain how to build a better position. We have at least one station for DOPE gathering. Another area might be set up to chronograph rifles so you can start with solid info in your ballistic program of choice. Normally we have a good selection of donated bags and gear to try out also. Let me know if I can help answer any questions you have. And Basher's right about us being friendly. We instituted a "no douchebags" rule a long time ago. LOL.
