Hi everybody!

I'm planning to get a Bell & Carlson "Medalist Light Tactical" for my varmint-rifle.
Since this is unfortunately an "on order only-item" i can't examine the stock at my local store, and the salesman hasn't handled one before - so even he is not able to tell me very much about this stock.

I'd like to know something about the rigidity of the stock.
Somewhere i've read a review about it, where the author was complaining about the rather soft material in the fore-end.

Is this true?

Is there any difference concerning stiffness (rather softness) to a Hogue-Overmolded stock?
It wouldn't make me glad to have the barrel touching the stock.

In case the stock has a different retail name over here in good ol' Europe i added the picture below, so you can figure out what i'm talking about.

Looking forward to your answers...

Greetings, Wiking

Re: B&C "Medalist Light Tactical" - any good?

Thank's a lot for your answer...
in this case, let's call the stock "Medalist Varmint/Tactical".
(that's the reason why I added the picture - taken from seller's website).

On the B&C site there's no talking about a chassis from the grip to the end of the forend.
They call it "full-length aluminum bedding system" and it looks like this:

...to me this doesn't look like the aluminium would go any further than to the recoil lug.... and this leaves me rather sceptic about the forend.

Greetings

Re: B&C "Medalist Light Tactical" - any good?

I've got one and prolly gonna order another, it is aluminum and its a pretty stout stock IMHO. I am pretty satisfied with it and dont think you would be let down by purchasing one.

my 2 cents...

I have three. One has had the crap kicked out of it. I really do like these stocks.

Re: B&C "Medalist Light Tactical" - any good?

Love my light tactical, really fits me well and I like the trim lines. I am not a fan of the heavy or thick forends like you showed in your first picture.

Re: B&C "Medalist Light Tactical" - any good?

...thanks again for the answers - especially to BiggerStick & LoneWolf for the excellent pictures.
I made my decision and ordered a "Medalist Vertical Grip Varmint Stock" in OD with black spiderweb today from rifle-accuracy.com.

I'm thinking about a bedding-job.
Suppose i can answer the question myself as soon as i get my hands on the stock, but i like to plan in advance...

What do you think? Useful/Necessary or not?

Greetings!

Re: B&C "Medalist Light Tactical" - any good?

i have one and i like it for long long range shootin, but the fore hand part is to wide to hold off hand. so im goin to sand it down to look like the mcmillin hope i dont waste my money and ruin it.also can anyone tell me if i can take a 1-1/2 off the but pull is to long for my short a????. it dont seem like the butt pad has screws in it to remove it. its glued aint.now what do i do. please give ur ideas thx.

Re: B&C "Medalist Light Tactical" - any good?

I had one and liked it. I am just not a fan of the butt hook. I still have one of the Varm/Tac stocks and like it very well. I like the stocks because if I have an older 700 Remington Varmint Spl in a beaten up wooden stock, I can slap it in one of these and it is a new day for an old rifle.

Re: B&C "Medalist Light Tactical" - any good?

i really like mine. i was originally looking for the B&C M40 style stock but got the A2. the fore end is kinda on the wider side but i don't plan on shooting it off hand much and if i do its seems fine even with my girlish hands.

GREAT STOCK! I HAVE 3!

Re:

Finally my setup is complete!

This is my Howa 1500 (.243), with the B&C stock, Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50, Legacy Magazine Kit and Harris Bipod.

I also reloaded a bunch of rounds, and this is the most promising group (109 yds).
The sqares are 1cm x 1cm, the five shot group is 0.84 inches.
--> better groups are about to come with the next batch of reloads.

Recoil is extremely mild, due to the caliber and the heavy rifle (approx. 13.4 lbs).
