B14R ammo recommendations

Good to know, my barreled action should be in hand shortly and I’ll be able to start seeing what it’s capable of.

My steel B14R likes, Wolf match and Extra, SK long range, Flat nose, Biathlon, also likes Norma Tac22 and match. I have not tried CenterX, looking to ordered some soon. SK ammo is shooting the best so far.

Mine also shoots SK very well. The standouts seem to be Rifle Match, Pistol Match Special and Flatnose Match. I’ve only tried one lot of Center X which was not impressive, however Midas + shot very well which leads me to believe the lot of Center X was just a bad one. A particular lot of Eley Club also shot very well; I haven’t shot anything pricier than that from Eley.

An acquaintance at the range shoots SK Long Range match through his and it does very well - I watched him shoot five 10 rnd groups at 100yds, all an inch or less.

I’d start with a few SK varieties, but honestly I think the gun is not very picky and finding a good lot of ammo is more important.

After about 1500rds, and several lots, this is my assessment.

Center X, SK Std +, SK Flat nose match have been the best for me. Midas + wasn’t bad, but wasn’t better than Center X for me. SK match wasn’t great, but it did perform better once it was warmed up by setting in the sun.

Eley club, Eley Team and Eley match didn’t impress at all. Eley Tenex wasn’t impressive in my barrel at 50-75yds but did ok at 100yds. It just wasn’t noticeably better than Center X over multiple groups.

I’ll have to see if I can track down some locally, since the joys for living in the republic of NY means no mail order ammo.

Sk pistol match special. Center-x

I can buy the pistol match for $75/brick locally, and it shot 99% as good as the two lots of center-x I tried that I can't get local. So I shoot lots of pistol match special.

Sk rifle, yellow box for practice. Seems to have a few extra fliers but at $50/brick it's a bit cheaper for practice.

I done a lot testing when I 1st got mind and Wolf Match Target Extra shoots the best out of mine.

This past weekend I shot a match in eastern Illinois that the 1st stage was 435y with 12-ish mph full value wind. Granted, it was on a full size IPSC, but still. After my 1st miss, I managed 3 impacts in a row until the wind screwed me. It took 5 more to spot my misses to get my new wind hold, for 1 final impact. I was pretty darn happy , to say the least. Especially since I had never shot it past 383y before.

By enlarge I shoot SK yellow. SK red. SK long range and Center X and they all shoot better in that order.
That is also the order in which they cost from least to most. I have never been able to justify using Midas +
based on superior performance except for in my Kimber 82G
All are shot at 50 meters and are measured ctc. and five shot groups except for the Bergra. See photos.

Kimber 82G ~ .25" Midas +
Anschutz 57 trainer ~ 40",.205", .32" and .34" SK red ( first gun photo)
V22 ~ .34" Center X
CZ457 Royal ~ ten shots ~ .42" SK long range
Zastava MP22 ~ .32" , .345", .485" and .385" ~ Ammo?? Great for a 275.00 rifle.
Kimber 82 C .25", .46", .48" and 46" Midas plus.

I had bought two case for my Vudoo and most of my guns shoot it well.
The second gun photo is of a new Bergara slipped into my Vudoo chassis and TTD trigger unit,
It was shot at 50 YARDS with Center X and does as well as my V22 does. The circle on the target represents
how my V22 shot when it was at the Lapua test center getting lot tested. My only complaint with the B14R is the bolt knob itself. EGW makes on the is identical to the Vudoo knob except the threads so I got one of those.
The Vudoo knob feels perfect to me when operating the bolt. The EGW will also fit on the CZ 457s. I also use their
700 SA MOA scope rail.

The bottom line seems to be that you get what you pay for in ammo to a large degree. I will be sending four rifles out to Lapua or ELEY for lot testing now that winter has raised its ugly head. It's only 50.00 a rifle and well worth it to get you headed in the right direction ammo wise.

My latest purchase is a brand new Anschutz 1903. She is SWEET......

Best of luck
Shawn

I have been on the fence about this new Bergara only because I do not have any fancy rimfire ammo. It's all CCI standard, bulk packs of Remington, and some other hi velocity stuff which my wife's pistol likes the best. It all works great in my Ruger MKIV with a can as well as in a Savage bolt gun my daughter has had for over 10 years now. Sadly, I don't think we are going to see any type of reasonable ammo prices. Ever. Any consensus from members if I could expect all this proven performance from rimfire ammo I have on hand? I reckon it comes down to what I would be happy with on the target? Deep thoughts from my shallow mind....
