Re: BAD WEEKEND!!!

Boyd's makes that stock. Order one for the Savage in some tacticool color and call it a day. Of course you could try pinning the stock and repairing it. The break looks pretty clean. J-B Weld and dowels. Hell, what have you got to lose?

Re: BAD WEEKEND!!!

Only two out of the three. The Savage can be repaired without affecting accuracy, with epoxy and some long screws (for reinforcement of the pistol grip...not for screwing it down!) I'd epoxy it back together first, with a thin two part epoxy, taking care to get the edges as perfect as possible. Then I'd drill a couple of over sized holes, up (or down as possible) thru the pistol grip that would let a length of 1/4 inch all-thread drop in and be covered. Then mix up some Marine Tex or other hard reinforced epoxy, fill the holes and insert the all thread. Clean up the holes and when set, it will be stronger than new. JMHO

Re: BAD WEEKEND!!!

FireMarshall...

I'll take those lathes. Especially if you charge the shipping to Flounder, just to exemplify the point!!!!

I have officially reconsidered the suggestion of banning you for about a week or so though. I just wanted to be sure that you weren't going to break the 'Hide, too.

But this offering will suffice.

Maybe you could throw in a third, so that Frank can have one too?

Re: BAD WEEKEND!!!

Wow....what a buzzkill.

If that's a common thing with the Walther, I'd get a For Sale sign on it as soon as it gets back. Go Ruger, or other name with a long and strong track record.

I'd go the Boyd's laminate route too, on the rifle.

Re: BAD WEEKEND!!!

I don't think it's unreasonable for Savage to not step in, considering the stock and embedded stud didn't fail, it was the sling clip that failed.

But for the Walther slide, that's something. Do you mind posting the correspondence where they said "it's common" for the rest of us? Did they have a serial number range, or just all of them in general?

Re: BAD WEEKEND!!!

I had a Walther P22 do the exact same thing. I emailed S&W and got a return shipping label and about a week and a half later, I had a new P22....which blew up about a year later. Sent it back and got another, so I'm looking forward to the next catastrophic failure. S&W has been good to replace them all though and have done so very quickly.

No way in HELL I'd knowingly shoot that gun after seeing those pics, but thats just me I guess haha F that. My first group would look like shit

Re: BAD WEEKEND!!!

30% off on a replacement stock? That offer is is a bad joke. You need to keep calling Savage! You not being taken care of is BS.
That stock breaking is not acceptable. Dropping from shoulder height should not be sufficient force for this fracture to occur. You know it, we know it and so do they.

Did you let them know you have posted picks of the failure here and there is visibility to their poor customer support offer? Email them a link to your thread.

I am not a Walther P22 fan, but I am impressed that you are being taken care of by them. For me, their response is the kind of action that makes you take a second look at Walther products.
It is just the opposite when it comes to Savage.

Re: BAD WEEKEND!!!

One of my other hobbies is woodworking and finishing. I've actually done it for 15 years now, and have come to know my woods fairly well. What's scary is that the wood in the stock looks a lot like pine.
eek.gif
In all reality you probably will not find anyone at Savage to admit it's pine.

Re: BAD WEEKEND!!!

Best thing to do is replace it with a Rem.700.Sorry had to say it.Sombody would have sooner or later.Salvage just ain't my thing.Sorry for you luck .As far as the Walther that is common lots of their stuff likes to fall apart go RUGER and don't fear the flying parts ever agian.Good luck

Re: BAD WEEKEND!!!

I offer my condolences to your broken firearms. I hope you get everything sorted out. S&W customer service is not that bad from my last experience with a Walther P22. (Mine just broke the safety levers and had ejection problems)

If this all happened in 1 weekend, I feel bad for your insurance broker as well.

I hope Walther is good to go for much of there stuff. I was thinking about the PPS 9mm from them but started hearing things about trigger reset issues and slide stops breaking. They probably have it figured out now I hope. Its always best to buy what's been around a while. As for the Savage, I like their rimfires! Good luck to either getting a new Boyds or repairing. I think what was said of repairing it would be a good route. Make sure what epoxies you use can still hold in cold temps. Some epoxies loose strength in cold weather.
