Hello everyone,

I'm strongly considering a Remington 700 LTR in 308 Win. & would like to trick it out a bit. I read that the military M40 rifles are outfitted with a M5 detachable magazine trigger guard manufactured by Badger Ordnance. I also read that they make 5rd or 10rd mags. Has anyone tried this? I'm wondering if I can do this myself or if there's pretty tight tolerances and machining involved. I'd like to trick the gun out but I don't want to negatively affect the accuracy.

Also, since I live in TX I think silencers are legal. Just curious for those of you who have one, does it affect the accuracy much? I'll probably never go this route, but it'd be a fun project.

Thanks for reading

You will need to inlet your stock for the Badger M5. I suggest taking a look at the Surgeon DBM, as it is superior to the M5. IMO Badger is great, but keep your options open. They use the AICS mags, 5/10rd. Suppressors don't affect accuracy as much as most people believe. If using supersonic rounds, you should be able to hit the 1k mark with the LTR. Do a little bit of research before jumping into a buy. If you do go with the LTR you are off to a great start.

Thats Debatable

Different Yes, Superior thats a Stretch.

Badger was first, and has produced more units than anyone else by a huge margin they are in use been used by the USMC and have for 3 years now and countless number of LE Agencys including the FBI HRT unit also use them. The Surgeon is also a nice unit as well as a few others out there that are making similer units.

Your stock will have to be inletted for the DBM Unit and its not easy best to have a Smith do the work.

As far as the detachable magazines go, what's the difference between the Badger Ordnance & Surgeon, or are they interchangeable?

Is the main difference between these two the mag releases?

The Surgeon also extends out of your stock for better magazine changes.

Send your stick to GAP for inlet and barrel threading, Goerge charges a reasonable fee and good turn around time, as for the suppressor legal is a state of mind\which County in TEXAS you live in, some places in our great State no one will sign off on the paperwork, no biggie though a Trust or LLC will do.

Yes. Suppressors are legal in Texas. You just need approval from your local LE agency whether it be city or county. Or you could do a trust. As far as suppressors go I strongly suggest AAC!

GA Precision aka GAP www.gaprecision.com

A10XRifle above is the owner and head smith. GAP is top rate and has built all the bolt rifles in my safe now. They have put n Badger DBMs, which are excellent and I have them in all my rifles, and threaded barrels and put on a Surefire can adapter for me also. Great work.

Re: Badger Ordnance mag & silencer for Rem 700 LTR

GAP stands for GA Precision. I like the Badger m5, another good one is the Seekins Precision. Seekins had their new one at shot and was super nice, there is a thread here somewhere...

You may need to modify the top of the bottom metal where it mates with the receiver for a closer fit.

Good luck.

They are both capable of using the AI (Accuracy International) magazines as are CDI precision's DBM, APA's DBM, there are several DBM choices.

Re: Badger Ordnance mag & silencer for Rem 700 LTR

no disrespect for George but I have badger and surgeon bottom metal. The surgeon is better in my opinion when those two are compared. I don't reside in the same building with badger ord. either.

If you milled the fence off of the surgeon unit I think it would be perfection. Positive and True ambi operation. The FBI and HRT and ABC D EFG would probably have used the surgeon dbm but as stated above. Badger was first. Badger has more units out there. OK. I agree.

Re: Badger Ordnance mag & silencer for Rem 700 LTR

What's the difference between the AW & AE Accuracy International mags? Also, which size do you guys recommend, 5 rd or 10 rd. Does the 10 rd protrude quite a bit below the stock, making prone shooting difficult?

Re: Badger Ordnance mag & silencer for Rem 700 LTR

First off, you are seeking a suppressor to suppress the sound, not a silencer. NOTHING can truly be silenced. The badger bottom metal has been around for quite some time and has an outstanding track record. Surgeon, Seekins, CDI also have great reputations. I would recommend a system that does NOT use proprietary magazines so you can borrow mags from someone if need be. The difference between AI AE and AW mags are AE mags are single stack and AW are double. The 10 round mags should not hinder prone shooting. If you are looking to go with a detachable box mag system I recommend just going with an AICS (Accuracy International chassis system) which already has the box magazine system. I have an LTR in an AICS and I could not be happier.

As for a Suppressor get a Shark, there exspensive, but well worth it, if the cost of a Shark is out of your price range a Gemtech is a good can from a good company, I would avoid Jet and AAC, both make good products but there business model suck, Jet can't deliver anything on time, and AAC is the only company to get banned from AR15.com for spamming there products from multible accounts from the same computer.

Re: Badger Ordnance mag & silencer for Rem 700 LTR

I'm about to buy bottom metal for my XCR (pretty LTR) and i think I'm going with Badger - simply because I'll be able to find more second hand AICS mags on the market and grab a good deal or two.
