Badlands?

Re: Badlands?

Bobby Whittington and Steve Suttles is good to go. Suttles was a marine Nam sniper with the sixth highest kill score with a bolt action. For the money, you cannot get better training in the US imo.

Re: Badlands?

These guys walk the talk. Even though the class had 60% leo everybody was brought to the same level no intimidation. be prepared to start early and end late at night typically 10pm then up again. make sure you and your partner have the same optics, mine decides at the last minute to switch to mil mil I was MOA needless to say we had a hell of a time working together
Pm if you want more details

Took forever to get rid of the dirt.

Re: Badlands?

Basic Long Range Precision (Sniper) Rifle Coure

He puts on a good class. His class was geared towards Longer Range Shooting than most LE M/O Classes. He also covered more Position Shooting (Kneeling, Setting, etc) than you would get in most LE M/O classes. He has multiple ranges at his disposal, as well as a tower. You get to work with Wind also. Southern Oklahoma has the best wind you can order up for a Rifle Class. I think he had moving silhouettes set up for one exercise also. Badlands has lots of steel to shoot on.

They also have real Red Clay, as in the kind they make bricks from. His main firing line had new gravel down when I attended. But you got to shoot on other ranges on the ground. My Eagle Rifle Case/Shooting Matt still has a red cast to it. You can brag about the red clay cast on you gear coming from Badlands for years to come.

Bob had a restaurant he bragged on. You need to figure one atleast one meal their. The hotel he recommend is good also. I stayed in the trailer during the small class I attended. I went back later for a match and stayed in the hotel. You can tell Texas is not liberal terretory. The motel looked like a SWAT Convention during the match weekend. Guys in camo, or carring camo on hangers, long gun cases everywhere. Gear in duffle bags. None of the non shooting guests even acted like this was a big deal to them.
I went to the August 2004 Class, so things could be a little different in 2011.

Re: Badlands?

I attended the Advanced Sniper PhaseI last summer. The instruction was excellent. I hope to go to Phase II or any other course this coming year. You can stay at the "Bunkhouse" for free if there is room and I would advise doing that. There is a good known distance range out to 1,000 yards and I beleive he has 10-12 unknown distance ranges. Steve Suttles is an amazing instructor and very knowledgeable. You will have to ask about the "JFM" shot. Seeing is believing is all I can say. The courses tend to be no nonsense courses typically tailored to what the individual shooter needs to complete the course. People take the courses from varying backgrounds. Steve and Bobby are very good at adapting the course material for each student and have no problem spending extra time to make sure each student understands what is being taught. As I mentioned earlier I would highly recomend the course to anyone. I think its a great school at an exceptional value.

Re: Badlands?

Never taken the course, but Bobby is a great guy. He is more than willing to help you out. I was working in the Wichita Falls, Tx area when I had a free weekend and as I always try to carry my long range rifles and look for places to shoot, he told me he would be busy training SWAT, he led me out to their KD course and let me have it for the day free of charge. Can't beat that with any kind of stick.

Re: Badlands?

Ive taken his Phase 1 Sniper school. Great school, great teachers, great facility. Suprised me with quite a bit of military style land nav/map reading. I took a Precision rifle 1 class from another local, well-known school, and then shot against some guys that took the same class at the Badlands. Those guys were way ahead of me in terms of movers and wind reading.

The red dirt is a trip. I still smell it when I turn on my truck A/C, and havent been there in like 5 years, and I change the cabin filters regularly!

HOWEVER: THE RED DIRT AINT NOTHIN COMPARED TO THE CHIGGERS!!!

Consider yourselves warned. Forget the bug spray, it will only make those nasty demons from hell laugh. Get yourself a sock full of sulfur, and pound yourself with it until it smells like sulfur when you take a pee.

Re: Badlands?

I have been trying to decide if I should go to Badlands or not...
It came very highly recommended to me by someone that went a couple years ago, but I want to be sure before I make a 1600 mile trip to get there...
