I don’t have any bags and I shoot a lot from tripod medium to long range across canyons. I normally throw my pack on my lap to help but I was thinking a pillow or something else to make it more of a kit. I rarely shoot from bipod but it would be nice to have something I could use prone as well. It doesn’t have to be the best at anything. Needs to be light and have semi back country uses. What would you take on hunts?

I think hes asking about a shooting support bag, not a pack. It wouldn't work for a pump-pillow kind of set up, but as a light rear bag the SAP is great. It weighs like nothing and is a good rectangle shape for 3 heights.
I hunt with a badlands 2200 pack. For me, I can sit and use the top for a rest. It has a nice little v on top that just fits the stock on my t3 lite. Prone works too using either the back or side. And after the shot, the foldout meat shelf works way better than one would think.
Thanks guys. Yes this is for a support bag that you would take despite the weight penalty. I carry a lot generally but at some point I need to streamline my setup some more. I can usually build a setup pretty good when I get where I’m going. I like the stability I get from laying pack on lap with tripod but I fidget a little too much getting it comfortable in short notice. Sometimes I sit for a couple hours to all day long. I will look into a light rear bag for bipod but if I could find something that can help some in all areas I would be happy. Doesn’t need to be best at all things. If I don’t find something maybe just my puffy jacket stuffed in side itself will be a good thing to improvise

Yes, Warhorse Development has really good stuff. Check them out and see if they offer a certain bag size/type that you could benefit from.
If a guy is already hauling a pack why not use it for a rest as well?

As above, I use combinations either or pack/bipod/tripod/trekking poles or just natural objects...I climbed over the canyon edge onto the end of a tree limb using my jacket and branches for a perfect support @ 532 yards on this bedded bull.
Field conditions improvisation shooting practice is extremely beneficial and will yield results when seconds count. It sounds like to me that is what you are working on.
Often less equipment is better in difficult terrain. I also carry a length of 550 cord that I lash to trees/limbs and create a loop for the rifle instead of a tripod/bipod - sometimes even for a butt stock rear support.
I pre-tie loops for the ends for the particular rifle I am using and simply wrap the 550 around the branch or tree used and lean into it. That method combined with your sling yields effective results.

No experience with one but check out the Killow from Sawtooth. Looking at picking one up for a multi purpose backcountry bag
I made mine with a grey ghost bag and a special lightwt fill. Just a couple Ozs

I have a stuff sack and a puffy vest or jacket stuffed into it. Typically, it will hold other stuff too, like game bags, etc. Could even be a puffy quilt. If you are already packing into shoot or hunt, may as well make it double duty.
If you are just hiking away from the truck to shoot, then one of the "pump" or "pillow" bags will do. Depends upon how much space your are trying to fill and how you are shooting, I guess.

This is the answer if you want a positional bag. For a rear bag, your favorite with an ultra lite fill. Or you can DIY some.
I have been using an Eberlestock J34 hunting in the mountains of New Mexico. It has served well. While its not as comfortable as my North Face expedition pack, it is comfortable. It can be expanded in capacity to carry meat back to the truck or sealed off to carry gear through the elements and keep stuff dry. It has a built in rifle scabbard if you want to free up your hands to carry meat. I have camped out of it on elk hunts for three nights carrying both mine and my girlfriend’s gear/food etc.
