Range Report Ballistic App

Got the Ballistic App for my iPhone.

2 questions regarding the trajectory function - 1) Sight height, I measured my AR from the middle of the bolt to the middle of the scope. Got 3 inches. Is this how its done? 2) Drag Model, I am shooting bergers. Do I need to select G7? I am thinking I need to select the drag model that fits out to 300 yds, and use that to predict out to longer distances. This G business has me confused.

also if you would like to get the Brian Litz book it will explain all of the "G STUFF" you mentioned. I use the Ituch and the bullet flight program works great

You won't notice much difference between G1 and G7 until you get out a ways. My main .308 load, for instance, doesn't show more than an inch variation until it gets to 660 yards. That said, the Bergers are definitely fit the G7 BC so use it. If you get it off their site, it will also be the most accurate number (some ballistics programs may not be up-to-date).

I did get the book that Brian has and its more than worth the cost of $40.00.
I do ot se any use of the G1 anylonger in that the G7 ballistics match my applications closer in my opinion . also using the G7 with the Itouch and Bulletflight program and there working together great!!!!!

Man! I had to pay $45.95...which significantly cuts into the value of this book.

A note on G7 BCs. Seems I read on another post somewhere that with some bullets the poster had found the G5 model was a better fit. Generally though, any boat tail and definitely any VLD is going to fit G7 better than any other model. That said, there are a good number of non-boat-tail bullets in the book, e.g. .308 200 gr. Nosler Partition, where Litz gives a G7 BC as well as G1. I noticed that the G7 BC variation listed for that particular round is higher than the G1. Comparatively, the G7 BC for the 165 gr. Accubond (for example) has less variation than the G1 BC.

Question: Should we use the BC that has the least variation across velocities?

Yes.

As you stated above, you'll find that most BT bullets fit G7 better than G1 so G7 is almost always a better choice for LR shooting (since BT bullets are used almost exclusively in LR shooting).

Do they even make PPC's anymore? That was my response when I asked the dude at Best Buy about them because it was my original intent to make the program for palm or PPC. These days the functionality of the PDA/PPC is has migrated onto the phones. The two primary OS's for phones are Windows Mobile and Mac/Apple. There are a host of good programs for the iPhone and iTouch. Windows Mobile is a more difficult OS to program for and keep up with but there are programs coming out. I think Blackberry is the most difficult to program for.

I decided to go with the TI platform because the OS has been stable for decades. It's robust, reliable, there's only one 'version' all of which make it easy to support. This is in contrast to the Windows model which is under constant development and has different versions coming out (practically) monthly with various provisions for screen size, touch screen vs non-touch screen, etc.

Not being a computer wizz myself, the above are my reasons for seeking out a more user friendly and static platform. It's adequate and I can provide better support for it.

Hi, Bryan,

Although there are a host of good programs for the iPhone and iTouch, I think yours, if you wrote one for them, would be a better one than any of the others. So, could you perhaps at least write one for that?
