Ballistic FTE Second chance-WHY???

A while back I got Ballistic FTE for my Ipod. After taking it out playing with it, I learned that the numbers were not very accurate when compared to my actual range values.
Later I got the Field Density Altitude Compensator (FDAC), (which I love and is incredibly accurate)and I compared those numbers to my actual results. To no surprise, the 2 are almost identical.

So after giving up on Ballistic FTE for a while I decided to pick it up again and give it another try. Again, to my not so surprise, FTE is way off (IMO) to my actual numbers. Then, I compared my range results to FDAC and they are on.

I tried different settings, different drag models, different BC and nothing, FTE is way off.

I even tried the iSnipe program and that was accurate. With this app though, G1 was the accurate drag model, G7's results were off just as with FTE.

I guess once and for all FTE is going in the garbage. Too bad, because it does have some good features.

What ^he said. I have had no issues out to 1000.

Re: Ballistic FTE Second chance-WHY???

Mine has be spot on as well out to 1000. One time I went to a range where 500yard and 600yard steel targets will be shooting at an up angle in the prone position, so it was off a bit. After I realized that and turned on the LOS angle to line up with my rifle, and it was spot on again.

Re: Ballistic FTE Second chance-WHY???

The FTE and the Shooter programs I have are almost identical; sometimes they are off by a mere 0.1 mil at further ranges. Since you had issues with other programs I would say user error or wrong inputs (i.e. speed and BC).

Agree.
It's been perfect for me, but I did notice the above when playing around.
Whenever you change the drag-model, you must also enter the correct value.
For SMK it brings up the G1 value, for 155 Scenar the G7.
Changing the to G7 for the SMK will produce some amazing data

- Unless you actually enter a new value.

Re: Ballistic FTE Second chance-WHY???

You know I'm not above feeling stupid and posting about it. So here I go...AGAIN, I played with it a bit last night and I SWEAR I don't know what I changed or did, but the numbers now look right.

I kid you not guys, I did everything I thought I could do and change with this thing, and until last night ( of course after my post) did the numbers finally look right.

Ok guys, let me have it... LOL!!

Re: Ballistic FTE Second chance-WHY???

Garbage in = garbage out!

I have the FTE, but like the Knight "bullet flight" better.
but...FTE, has always done its job, with the right data.

Re: Ballistic FTE Second chance-WHY???

I don't trust the FTE. I just went outside and did a HUD and the temp was 92 degrees. Came back inside waited 10 minutes and the HUD was 92 degrees. My thermostat says it's 69. Plus when I choose a Ballistics Profile from my favorites in HUD it does not change the weather data when I go back and select the favorite. What am I doing wrong?

If it's automatically populating the data from an internet weather source, then of course it isn't going to change when you walk outside or inside. This isn't a Kestrel and there isn't a thermometer, unless you have it linked to your Kestrel.

I run mine on an iTouch so my location service is disabled when I'm on the range anyhow. I input the data manually from my Casio Pathfinder watch.

You have to change it to G7 in the "use drag model" area not the "native drag model" area. If you do this it will automatically apply the right number.

The LOS angle has gotten me more than once...

Sadly the Iphone does not have a built in thermostat. However, when pulling the weather info from wherever they get it from, the Iphone does assume that you will be shooting your long range rifle outside and not inside your house.

That is toooooooo funnnyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Ballistic FTE Second chance-WHY???

That's one smart Iphone that knows if I am inside or outside. Kind of creepy like the thermos.....you put it in cold and it stays cold, put it in hot and it stays hot.....how do it know?

Yes - Thank you!

Re: Ballistic FTE Second chance-WHY???

FTE uses the same ballistic computer as JBM (it licensed JBM's code.) So if you can't make it work, then perhaps the problem is the data you're putting into it, since I don't think there will be much of a consensus around here that JBM is shit.
