Hey guys,
I just got Ballistic FTE and while getting familiar with it I had some questions,so I emailed the developer 3 times. I'm still waiting on a replay.

While I know the software works well don't hold your breath getting support.

This is the kind of shit that gets under my skin.

Ok, I'm off my box now.

Stay safe.

Re: Ballistic FTE Support SUCKS

Did you ask for a hand here?? Alot of people have experience with that program I'm sure someone would be able to help shed light on your problem mate

^^ THIS!! ^^

What questions do you have? I am sure that there are enough experienced users here on Ballistic FTE that we could probably get you pointed in the right direction. Also, did you read through the known issues and FAQ section on the Ballistic FTE site?

Re: Ballistic FTE Support SUCKS

I have used this since it came out. It is an excellent tool. I'd be more than happy to help you with any questions. Feel free to PM me.

Please keep in mind, this, like all ballistic programs, should not be considered a stand alone product. It is a great tool for the toolbox, but is used most effectively with a dope card/dope book for your rifle and load.

One enhances the other.

Let me know if I can help.

Re: Ballistic FTE Support SUCKS

Hey guys,
You guys are right, I should get off my soap box. It just pisses me of when one spends money on something, especially a good tool like Ballistic FTE and when you want a couple of questions answered you don't get a replay.

Anyway, enough whining on my part.

Here are my questions. I read the document that goes with the app.

1. In the settings under Ballistic computer you can chose Ballistic or JBM, what's the difference/preferred?

2. Under weather service, you have 2 choices, NOAA and GeoNames. What's more accurate? I tried both and got very different results. I use NOAA.

3. You have 2 weather conditions the app. uses to compute the results, zero weather and current wx. which is the app using, is it a combination?

4. Last, what is the absolute pressure?

thanks guys.

2. Under weather service, you have 2 choices, NOAA and GeoNames. What's more accurate? I tried both and got very different results. I use NOAA.Do you own a Kestrel? If not, use either. My results do not change using one or the other.

3. When this is disabled (default), no corrections are made to account for this.
The current weather is just that, the climate and altitude you are shooting at.

4. Last, what is the absolute pressure? The total pressure exerted on a system, equal to the gauge pressure plus atmospheric pressure and read this article: http://www.arcanamavens.com/LBSFiles/Shooting/Downloads/Baro/Basically, click to make pressure absolute, then enter data from Kestrel, altitude will remain zero. Which is what you want. Be sure to setup Kestrel as Lindy states

thanks guys.

Re: Ballistic FTE Support SUCKS

Hey Swan,
Thanks for the answers.

I do own a kestrel so I know the wx is not much of an issue, just curious what things do and how.

I know what you mean by absoute pressure. I've read that article and even spoke to Lindy when out at Rifles Only. I has a feeling that's what it was, just wanted to confirm.

Re: Ballistic FTE Support SUCKS

I just downlanded another free update of Ballistic FTE. They seem to update it on a fairly regular basis. This points to good support rather than support that sucks, as the designers are constantly making it better. This last update allows you to solve a ballistic solution for a specific range as well as updating the already extensive data base for ammunition and bullets.

Re: Ballistic FTE Support SUCKS

Am I the only one that dislikes the interface to FTE? And by that I mean the touchscreen iphone/ipod interface. Obviously this has nothing to do with FTE but I hate having to take gloves off to use it and I'd rather have a handheld computer with real buttons and a simple LCD interface with menus and submenus (like the BORS) than a pretty phone screen that doesn't work with gloves.

btw I have the advanced/HUD version of FTE and it's a great program! I just wish the iphone was out of the equation. Arduino here I come...

The screen would be a bit large on that, no?

Cuffm,
Yeah for going out to 1000 I use manatee. Otherwise I ahve a buddy with some land and I can get almost 400y there. He's can also support shooting out to 800y but he need to widen the swath in the woods.

Where do you shoot?

R.[/quotI shoot at Trail Glades basically every Sunday morning but was looking to do some more long range shooting after football season. I've been to Manatee but was wondering if there was anything closer. I know Malabar is out there also with a 600yd range and appears to be slightly closer or atleast quicker beeing its a short distance of I-95 near Orlando.

I haven't been to Malabar but have hear about their 600y range. I know they have a match on the second or third saturday of every month that goes out to 600y. I need to get an updated schedual and try to make it out there.

The wife is the one that usually puts a hold on my shooting.

We're planning on maybe going to manatee on the weekend of the 20th. of this month.
