Ballistic gathering tools

Good morning everyone,
I am new to this forum as a member, but not as a looker. A little bit about myself before I get into the meat and potatoes. My name is Jason Sauer and live in Estes park, CO. I love to hunt, reload and go shooting, and am very interested in getting into PRS competitions.
So now that you know all that, comes my questions. I am needing a new range finder for hunting and long range shooting, I am also needing a ballistic calculator and I decided to go with cold bore. Question is, would it be over kill to go with the Elite 1-Mile CONX Combo(I get a pro-deal on this) and use the Cold Bore program in conjunction? Or should I just get the program and a simple range finder and use a simple Kestrel to get wind call? Is there and other combos you all use?
Just looking for help so I don't waste money because I am overlapping. What ever system I go with I will be useing for both hunting and just going to the range.

My 2cents:

Get a pen and paper - it will be your most valuable learning tool. Take the time to write down environmentals and your predicted dope vrs actual. Do this until you see a picture..

CB is very robust... make sure your range is real.

A simple Kestrel is great for learning the wind as in BalasticARCs $84 weather unit.

Whatever range finder you get the Sig, newer gen Nikons about to hit the market or go nuts on a Vectronix; learn how to really use it. What you see in the return is not always the object you think it is.

With good data into CB you should be good.

I love data and looking at it, so gathering as much information in the field and out of the field is my M.O.

I use exactly this setup - CB on desktop and on a NOMAD, Kestrel Sportsman (I don't need the Elite but can always upgrade), ConX. If you skip the NOMAD, which I would do unless you get a crazy deal like I did; you will be smiling all the time.

It is a great, low cost, setup.

Awesome, this was what I was looking for! someone that has that setup and can say either its worth it or a waste a money. I get a killer deal on the ConX combo(almost 50%) so I think that is a good option.

CB is the top dog, but like Diver says without good inputs you are lost and going nowhere. Gathering those inputs is where the fun begins, just make sure to do your homework.

Absolutely!! More range time is never a bad thing.
Do any of you guys use both the desktop and mobile version? Is it worth the extra money to buy the mobile license? Or does it just save time and if I keep a range data book by hand in the field I can transfer my data when I get home?

Get something you can run on the fly too.. this allows you to see if wind is working or adjust to temps AOF and ranges you’d otherwise need a ream of paper for.

I use both Desktop and Phone versions, and data syncing between them is a snap. For my usage the Phone is a must, but it all comes down to what you are used to do.

A data book is as important as everything else, if not more so.
