Got a lot of helpful info on how to break in my Gladius. Just curious on others perspectives and results on there ways.

Thanks, Im excited to get my mits on it. Just trying to see what others have done and there outcomes. Threads like these help alot more people than just the person asking for input.

Most high quality custom barrels will stop fouling badly within the first few shots.
I usually do one-and-clean for the first three or four rounds, not to 'break it in' but just to see whether the barrel was lapped correctly and to make sure it's not otherwise a bad barrel.
I had one barrel that would not come clean: After a three minute soak with Butch's the dry patch kept coming out a deep dark blue, even after over forty shots. That barrel never cleaned-up properly and it always shot poorly. It was replaced under warranty.

My experience with factory vs premium aftermarket barrels tell about opposite things. Regarding premium aftermarket, the above reflects just about the same as I found with my L-W replacement barrel. After a few shots, it usually stops fouling aggressively. I clean for the first few, to determine when that fouling rate shifts to negligible, but that's just 'cause I'm a control freak.
Factory barrels are seldom produced to the same interior finish standards, and the fouling reflects this. But I am not at all convinced that aggressive cleaning during initial shooting has any meaningful effect on how soon the aggressive fouling will abate.
IMHO, the only significantly beneficial wear-in occurs as the machining marks from the throating operation are abraded/ablated down. This occurs as a normal part of the natural shooting process.
I give a rifle about 100 shots to settle down the throat before I begin serious load development. Those first hundred shots are most useful for the pressure testing and fireforming processes.

Im am also of the shoot & clean & dont waste time with 1 shot/clean - 5 shots/clean...never made a difference in the last 45 years of building my own shooters.

I have been amazed at the 1000's of various answers and opinions on this subject. I think people should follow the directions they feel safe and comfortable with. Whether it be forum advice or a manufacturers. I have never offically broken in a barrel and agree with those that shoot however many rounds they want and clean when you get home. I have rifles that I "forget" to clean sometimes and they shoot just as well dirty the next time I am out. Maybe the powder gods just shine over me when I shoot.

My brand new M1A barrel now has about 240-250 rounds through it and I never cleaned it once. Don't intend to either as the groups shrunk from 6-8 inchs at 200yards to 2.5-3 at the same distance after about 80 rounds.
