Barrel Diameter on Ruger American Predator vs Ruger American Hunter vs Ruger Precision Rifle

While searching for which platform I will be buying a 6.5 creedmoor in, I have been looking into Ruger quite a bit but was coming up short in finding definitive info regarding the barrel diameter of the predator, Hunter and Precision Rifles. Between Rugers website and other various sites who had reviewed these rifles, I was finding different claims of barrel dia on each rilfe. that said, I decided to call Ruger and get it from the "horses mouth". And being I had such a hard time finding this info on the internet, I figured I would share this with you guys.

I had read that the RAP did not have a heavy enough barrel to ideally accommodating a suppressor and it was not much heavier than the barrel on the regular American rifle. Now, I personally am not too worried about being able to accommodate a suppressor but I did want a somewhat heavy barrel as i plan to use this rifle for both, recreational shooting and hunting.

The measurements on the RAP and RPR are per what I was told by Ruger. The American Hunter is per what is listed on the website. FYI I am not sure why the measurements were taken in different location on each rifle but this is what they provided me with.

Ruger Precision Rile 6.5 creedmoor w/ 24" barrel (10.7 lbs)
- Barrel diameter measured 8.5" from the muzzle shoulder (just behind the threads) - .903
- Barrel Diameter at the muzzle (just before the threads) .75

Ruger American Predator 6.5 creedmoor w/ 22" barrel (6.6 lbs)
- Barrel Diameter at base of barrel - 1.153
- Barrel Diameter at middle of barrel - .760
- Barrel Diameter at muzzle (just before threads) - .730

Ruger American Hunter 6.5 creedmoor w/ 22" barrel (9.3lbs)
- Barrel Diameter at muzzle (just before threads) - .850 per specifications page for this rifle listed on Ruger website

I was really surprised that the American Hunter had the heaviest barrel of all of these while still being lighter than the RPR. I would have thought the RPR would have the heaviest but regardless, I am somewhat happy to see this because I can use the Hunter for a hunting rifle were as the RPR would not be practical for hunting.

I own two ruger American predators (one in 223 and the other in 6mm creedmoor) and I also own a ruger precision in 6 mm creedmoore. First thing I would mention is that I was not pleased with the factory stock and did not get good accuracy out of my stock predator. I changed the stock on both to the magpul hunter stock.

I shoot suppressed and the ruger American predator barrel handles my heavy silencerco specwar 308 without any issues. All three are very accurate, since I changed the stock of the predator its accuracy is similar to the ruger precision.

The action in the predator and precision feels identical to me. It's not very smooth .

I personally would get the predator and change to magpul stock (got stock for 199 on black Friday deal) over ruger precision. If you go for ruger precision in that price range I would consider a tikka (have two, much better rifles), howa or bergera.
