Barrel for LR-243

Currently have a finished DPMS lower and looking to finish off with a 243 barrel upper. I was looking at assembling the parts and sending to Krieger for the barrel, chambering and assembly. I would like a service rifle profile if possible and 1-8 twist. Anyone have experience ordering a DPMS barrel from Krieger or other vendor? can you share your how you would do knowing what you know from the experience? Is there an alternative vendor that would be preferred? What is the turnaround on a job like this? I plan to call them tomorrow and have my parts together by next weekend.

I built mine from a Krieger blank in .260 from a #18 LV profile. Can share the blueprint with you, the only thing is that my port is moved forward 3" so you must take that into consideration when having the profile turned. If you stay with the standard gas tube length in 6mm you will have alot of extra pressure to dissipate. I did all the smithing work myself except for the barrel, I live by Bob White the former benchrest pres. who turned the profile and timed the bolt to my specifications.

I just got an AR Stoner/Midwayusa barrel and I have to say for the price it looks pretty good. Its a 5R, 1:8 twist, 24" stainless, and with a JP Enhanced bolt it fits a go gauge perfectly. The crown is nice and so far the only thing that was a negative is the flutes are super sharp on the edges, they took a nice chunk out of me today. Now I just need a stock to go shoot it.

Thanks for the replies. I talked to my local gunsmtih and he wasn't comfortable with doing the threading , contour and gas port so I called Krieger and talked to Mike. A very nice guy and ordered a barrel. The barrel will take 7 months and then assembly, chambering etc another 2 months. So, I put a $200 deposit down and now wait in anticipation. I think in the mean time I will get a DPMS barrel from Midway (.243 Win. 1-10)and assemble the upper. Amazing the wait time on barrels, action and stocks right now.

lencomatt, saw the barrel you were talking about ordered it. Perfect contour. It appears to be threaded. Did you plant to put a muzzle break on it? Get's here in a couple weeks. I bought a FL die and will load some 105 gr. projectiles. Should be fun.
