Barrel length and velocity, accuracy (6.5 Creedmore)

Looking to buy my first centerfire rifle, in 6.5 Creedmore, for long range target shooting. I thought a longer barrel = more velocity, but saw a video by .22 maker Vudu saying the powder is spent in .22 at 16 inches and barrels > 20" will slow the bullet due to drag against the rifling.

The 6.5 Creedmore rifles I've looked at have barrels from 20" to 26". For this caliber, what barrel length will produce the greatest velocity and accuracy?

22LR is much different than a 6.5 creed

Accuracy isnt dependent on length

24 or 26 is normal length. Longer will be fast up to probably 30 or 32 depending if you're using the right powder

2-4 grains of powder vs. 40-42gr of powder. You'd probably keep gaining velocity to somewhere around 40-45". Realistic top end for barrel length is 26 or 28".

Pretty much what those above have already posted. Also, a huge disadvantage of the 6.5 creedmoor is that people spell it's name wrong.

Also, keep in mind twist rate will affect velocity. I have one 26" 1:7 and a few other 26"'ers with 1:8. The 7 twist, given the same charge, results in about 60 fps slower.

Any given barrel can do this. Even same twist same manufacturer
