I have narrowed my caliber choice down to a .260 for my 1000yd + rifle. I will be running a 1:8 twist shooting 130gr. VLD. I'm down to barrel length. This rifle will only be used for 1000yd + shooting. Any suggestions on barrel length would be great.

I've taken my 26" 1:8.5 twist 6.5x47L to 1250m with 136 Scenars, which is right around their supersonic limit. The 130 Berger is no slouch either, though the extra mass in the heavier bullets will help at distance.

Barrel lenth question

All the reading i've done 26" seems to be the go to length in .260REM. Knowing that, I am still going 24" on mine and will live with the sacrifice of velocity for the lighter weight and increased maneuverability in the field. I may add a SureFire brake which will get me to nearly 26" effective length.
