I recently had a barrel set back and had poor results on the range today. I had a great load for it and tried the same load today. The groups were typically three shots barely touching and then two off to the right about .5 MOA. This is the first time I've set a barrel back. When you set a barrel back do you have to work up loads again. Maybe it changes the barrel harmonics?

Not to be harsh.....but how would you think it wouldn't change the barrel harmonics by lopping off a few inches of barrel?

I shot a few rounds that were seated a little farther out than my original rounds and they didn't shoot well either. I'm sure I probably need to adjust up or down a little from my original loads. For the folks that have done this, have you adjusted up or down when you shorten a barrel? Original load was 42 grs. of H4350 seated to 2.800 OAL. I may try some loads at 41 grs. 41.5, and 42.5 and see what happens.

i`ve set back quite a few custom stainless barrels.they`ve all shot as good and mostly better with same loads.i usually cuttoff the thread tenon and about 3/8 of the muzzle....so barrel comes out approx.1-1/4" shorter...
