What do you fellas consider a "modest shank". For instance, what shank length would you prefer on a 5.5 contour 308 blank to finish at 24"?

Kind of up to you.
I don't like a long straight shank if the barrel has a sporter type or varmint type contour. But it also depends on caliber.
Magnum calibers I will use a little more shank for the wall thickness around the longer cartridges but for .308 and such in the Sendero contour I will in most cases keep it very similar to the Remington Sendero shank length.
