Maggie’s Barrel Weevils Are Real!

I have an early Savage .338LM FCP that saw a lot of use 6-10 years ago, but sat out unloved for the last few years. Today I decided to take it out and clean it up. A cursory visual down the barrel showed something about half way down, so to clean out the dust (and apparently also copper corrosion) I wet a patch and ran it through.

Now I kid you not, this was not a staged photo nor a fake. This was actually in the bore. And I did not put it in there. This is how the patch came out.

Hahaha! I forgot that I told you that story.

Well actually…
I recall that a couple years back, while moving things around, the rifle sat unloved in the dry garage. It must have been around the same time that I found a lot of weevils in a bag of birdseed my wife had in the garage. It’s the only thing that I can figure.

Yeah, but wasn’t there a thread about barrel worms? I mean, it’s more plausible that steel weevils invaded one of those crappy Salvage barrels, right?

Plus, as @Sean the Nailer pointed out, this gives me an excuse to for crappy shooting.

Yeah, well there’s lots of copper too. Looks like there needs to be a serious cleaning. I guess I’ll try out that copper cleaner I bought a while back.
