Shooters, I just wanted to share a few pictures of some barrel work I did for a customer before it gets etched, sand blasted and painted.
Pictured below is a custom thread protector job that I performed on this 308 barrel as well as chambering, threading and fitting to a Stiller Tac 30 action.
The custom thread protectors are made to fit each threading application specifically. Once the threads are cut the thread protector is bored to a predetermined diameter and faced off. There is typically a .001" clearance between the end of the barrel and the inside wall of the thread protector, this helps with a more seamless fit and hides the threads.
Another benefit of this style is the crown is heavily recessed and is protected very well. A more shallow recess can be done if desired.
Once the thread protect is faced and all the cuts have been made concentric to the bore, the outside of the barrel is dialed in and the O.D. of the thread protector can be turned down to match the O.D. of the barrel. This specific barrel has been barrel spun to match the thread protector perfectly.
Here are the pictures, let me know if you have any questions or comments.
