Shooters, I just wanted to share a few pictures of some barrel work I did for a customer before it gets etched, sand blasted and painted.

Pictured below is a custom thread protector job that I performed on this 308 barrel as well as chambering, threading and fitting to a Stiller Tac 30 action.

The custom thread protectors are made to fit each threading application specifically. Once the threads are cut the thread protector is bored to a predetermined diameter and faced off. There is typically a .001" clearance between the end of the barrel and the inside wall of the thread protector, this helps with a more seamless fit and hides the threads.

Another benefit of this style is the crown is heavily recessed and is protected very well. A more shallow recess can be done if desired.

Once the thread protect is faced and all the cuts have been made concentric to the bore, the outside of the barrel is dialed in and the O.D. of the thread protector can be turned down to match the O.D. of the barrel. This specific barrel has been barrel spun to match the thread protector perfectly.

Here are the pictures, let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Re: Barrel work from Short Action Customs.

Purrrrddddy... I was at Marks shop last weekend and I can honestly say Ive never seen someone as meticulous as Mark when it comes to the details. The amount of time he puts into the fit and finish on his builds was amazing to me.

I actually asked him not to worry about making my barrel look perfect by barrel spinning it since it was going to get krylon'ed. He turned and looked at me and said "This is Short Action Customs, not Half Ass'ed Customs" I laughed but he was very serious about it even when it was taking away from him spending time with his new fiance who came to see him and was waiting. I cant thank him enough for all his help and friendship and he is definitely the guy to go to for whatever you may need or want done to your rifle.

PS. I nicknamed his thread protectors the "Now you see it, Now you dont" The seam really does disappear completely when you thread them on. Even when looking directly at it from a few inches away, you cant see the seam.

I like that cap!
I wouldn't use that blue waffle table padding for pics thought, makes it look like the surfaces have chatter on them.
