Bought a Barrett M95 last year from an estate auction. It did not appeared to ever have been fired. Sent it back to Barrett for a checkup and to have the newer muzzle brake installed.
We finally got around to taking it out to the range for the first time last weekend and could not get it zeroed at 100 yards without bottoming out my elevation adjustment and holding 6 inches low.
My scope set up is a Leupold Mark 4 (6.5X-20) with medium Mark 4 rings.
Called Barrett and they said that this older M95 has a tapered base and that I needed to by their 15-40 rings.
Has anyone run into this problem with their M95?

Re: Barrett M95 Scope Help

It sounds like that would solve your problem. I don't have any experience with the M95 but when you say bottom out your elevation I assume you are using all of your available down elevation on your scope. The base is designed that way for the extreme long range shooting that the 50 is capable of. A scope would never have enough adjustment to shoot out to 2000 yards even with a 20moa base so I am guessing it has a much higher moa base built in and the rings give you that extra adjustment to get it zeroed.

Yes, I ran out of elevation adjustment at the bottom end.
They make two sets of mounts. 15/40 MOA and 20/30 MOA
I want to get the set that will allow me to be able to hit at 100 yards without bottoming out and still reach out to over 1000 yards.
Which set should I buy?

Re: Barrett M95 Scope Help

If you try another scope with more elevation you should be fine. I have the same rifle with a NF 5.5-22 and have a 100 yard zero and should still have enough elevation to get to 2000 yard easy. It should only take around 65 MOA to get there with a 100 yard zero shooting 750 Amax bullets at my elevation ASL. Good luck and you will enjoy that rifle.
