Barrier Round?

Apologies, but I have no idea where to post this topic, so I am going with this area since it hopefully gets a lot of traffic.

Looking for good solid first hand experience from MIL or LE types with "Barrier Rounds", that is any bonded/solid round that you would use to shoot through an intermediate barrier (drywall, glass, etc).

If you could please advise how well the round is grouping, and how well it is staying true through the barrier to the target?

We have tried about 4 different barrier rounds, and we are having little to no luck with every round grouping about 2-3 MOA on an open air target, and 4-5 MOA on the target after penetration. They do well penetrating, they just produce big huge groups , 4 ot 5 times the size of the rounds that we normally use.

if you are shooting 308, take a look at Black Hills 180 accubond. shoots great for us.

Yup Black Hills 180 accubond.....way better then the fed 165 Tactical. However some of our rifles had some issues with accuracy. They had 1/12 twist barrels. Some of the 1/12 shot it great 1/2 moa others 1.5 -2 moa. best to try it first. My 1/11 - 1/2 moa.

As far as after penetration its a crap shoot with all rounds. Depending on the barrier your shooting through as well as distance after it passes through the barrier to the target and the angle of the bullet.

If you want straight line penetration through multiple walls, etc. get yourself a hard flat nose projectile of at least 65% meplat diameter. We have done lots of testing with various nose shapes. Both round nose and spitzer projectiles do not penetrate straight, softs or solids. My recommendation is to get some Cutting Edge "Safari Solids". In compacted wet news print they will penetrate approximately 60-72" STRAIGHT!

It is the angles and the very nature of nothing being the same, that makes, please roll down your window “almost” a better choice. Or accept that 2 Mils at close range is still a head shot.

If your shooting 30 cal, old Winchester silvertips or Israeli copper flashed steel AP rds. Speed is the key.

Actually have some of the Ruag on the way, looking at both the Styx round for open air, and the Barrier Round.

Looks like we have a lot of shooting to do!
