The US F-Class Open Rifle Team would like to thank Frank Green, Tracy Bartlein and the folks at Bartlein Barrels for stepping up and sponsoring the US F-Class Open Rifle Team with a generous sponsorship of approximately $15,000 worth of barrels and discounts for the US-F-Open Team members.

We are very grateful for their help in helping the team in its quest for the Gold in the upcoming F-Class World Championship that is to be held in Raton, NM in 2013. As most of you know, Bartlein makes incredibly accurate barrels and they do not compromise quality for any reason whatsoever. Regardless of how backlogged they may be, they make sure that the barrels going out of their facility are immaculate and fit for the highest level of competition!

Numerous National and International records are set on a regular basis by shooters using Bartlein Barrels. Recently, Bob Bock (previous Captain of the F-Open Team) set a new National record at a 1000 yards, 150-12x, using a Bartlein at the 2011 F-Class Nationals in Lodi. 9 out the top 10 winners in the recent European Championships were using Bartleins. That speaks volumes about the quality of their barrels and the trust that top shooters in the world place in these barrels.

Definitely a win for the team. Bartlein makes great barrels. Got them on all my rifles now.

Re: Bartlein Barrels Sponsors US F-Open Rifle Team

This really comes down to each individual shooter and the components they have. Action, Stock, caliber etc....

Are you shooting F-class open or F/TR?

F-open has a weight limit like 22#

F/TR has a weight limit of 18 pounds 2oz.

Most common barrel contours we see for F-open are:

1.250 str. and anything from 30" to 32" finish.

1.250 x 5.000 str. taper to anywhere from .900 to 1.050" muzzles are common.

A few guys are going 34" finish.

Some guys are buying bigger breech diameter barrels like 1.350 depending on which action they are using.

Most popular calibers? I would say 7mm, 6.5mm, 6mm and .30cal. and I would say in that order but the 7mm and 6.5mm are pretty close in terms of demand. Then I would say 6mm and .30cal. Could be the other way around on the last two.

If memory serves me right at the World Championships the top 10 shooters all shot 7mm's. Only other caliber to make the top 10 was a 6.5mm. I might be wrong on this but maybe Shiraz could shed a little light on this. He was there in the U.K. shooting the match.

Re: Bartlein Barrels Sponsors US F-Open Rifle Team

Thanks for the response Frank. I am in the process of planning a build based off a Barnard P Action and Bartlein barrel in 6.5x47 Lapua. Would probably be more of a 600 yd BR gun but still interested in what the F class guys were using. There are so many types its confusing even with quite a bit of research...

All top 10 at the last World Championship were shooting 7mms. Nine were British and one was Scottish. The whole US Open team was shooting 6.5-284, but that error will not be made again. We are now shooting 7mm Magnums and our shooters are doing very well in all the tryouts. The only problem with that is that we go through barrels very fast and thus the help from Bartlein is VERY much appreciated. Thanks again, Frank!

For those that may be interested in a blow by blow of the last F-Class world championship, I blogged it and is at the following link on the Team's website

Papagrizzly, do you have any similar articles or blogs which cover the F/TR class, it would be interesting to see what the current trends are in the US in regards to action brand, optics choosen, powder, stock manuf ect.......?

I think Darrell has a blog on the US F-T/R Team's site. Here's a link to their site:

As far as components and hardware goes, you can find at least 5 different actions in use by F-Open guys, scopes - mostly Nightforce, some March and an odd S & B, powder - whatever works for an accurate load, stocks - several different. I believe that the F-T/R team uses NF scopes.

Speaking of stocks - they basically determine the weight and contour of the barrel. For example, several shooters run a lighter stock and straight 1.25" tube. I cannot do that as my stock is heavy and I have to taper the barrel down to make weight. I recently built an F-T/R gun and had the same problem. Ended up having to whack off an inch and a half of the barrel when everything was assembled, in order to make weight. The 30" became a 28.5" barrel.

Re: Bartlein Barrels Sponsors US F-Open Rifle Team

Bartlein is definitely stepping up. That’s a huge contribution. I've known Frank from the Krieger days, he's the kind of guy you like to support with your business because he pays it forward.

Congrats to Shiraz and the US F-Class Team, go get em boyz.

Re: Bartlein Barrels Sponsors US F-Open Rifle Team

Now you'd think that Bartlein would want to sponsor the current world champs, not the runners up

Only joking.

I'll try and post a picture of my gun. Send me your email address and I can send one directly to you if you want.

Probably cannot post a picture till next Monday. I'll be out tomorrow and my camera is at home.

My open F-Class gun is built on a Barnard P action. Barrel is 1.250 str. x 32" finish, 5R, 1-9 twist, chambered in .284win. The stock is a McMillan Tooley MBR, the stock was custom painted by Squirts Autobody. Scope is a March 10-60x.

Moon at GAP put it together for me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gun is a hammer! Like I didn't expect anything less out of Moon!

That's because Bartlein is a forward thinking company and knows that the Brits will be dethroned by us in Raton in 2013!

Yes, we are very lucky to have a company like Bartlein making barrels here in the USA.
