I have a 700 VLS in .308 and I'm looking for a decent base and rings. I don't have the scope yet so I'm not sure of the height. I'm just looking for what people recommend as far as the brand.
The gun will be used for paper out to about 800 yards or so.
Keep in mind that I'm a married man and most of what I make goes towards paying off my house. I save what little I can to play with.
Thanks,
Scott.

Re: Base and Rings

Seekins are GTG. Granted they are not super cheap to get into, but a good set of rings are not gonna be 15 bucks. If anything every fails on your stick, it will not be the seekins.

Re: Base and Rings

Badger Ordnance rail, Seekins Precision rings, and a Super Sniper scope. All of that equals a reliable setup that is easy to work with that gets the job done!!

This is how my 10PC is setup, and it freakin ROCKS!!

Re: Base and Rings

Seekins Precision are excellent and won't break the bank.

What scope you getting. We can tell you what height rings you need.

Re: Base and Rings

I don't mean to thread jack, but I have a question on 1" rings. Badger, Seekins, and Nightforce make 30mm rings and Seekins only makes 1" low rings. Would Leupold Mark IV 1" rings also be considered top of the line with these brands?

Re: Base and Rings

The 20X is really limited on it's use. Unless you are only going to be shooting LONG distances or paper from close range, I would not use the 20X. The 20X is my LEAST favorite of the bunch.

My eyes are at that point to where the 10X would only serve me well for steel or hunting, when there is no specific point of aim. If I only needed to hit in a general area, the 10X is fine.

My world resides in the "best of both worlds" area. The 16X provides me the needed magnification, but allowing me a bigger field of view so that I can use it for hunting as well.

it's hard to do without the scope, but you can get very low even with a large objective with that rifle

Re: Base and Rings

I think the tactial rings & base looks cool. But for just shooting at the range? Like you said you will just be shooting at the range.I use Millet angle lock rings and base and have no trouble with them.since you said price has a lot to do with it these are a lot easier on your wallet.
