When I was in the market for an spr and spr barrel, I found a lot of people asking, but not too much feedback on the BCM spr 18" SS410 barrel, so I thought I'd share my recent shooting.
The upper is a BCM SPR MK12 Mod0 as comes from bcm except the YHM gas block.
The lower is a Noveske receiver, stag lpk, ACS stock. Trigger parts have been buffed and has JP reduced spring kit.
The rifle has 120 rounds total through it at time of testing.
First groups were a few months ago.
Brass: LC brass, once fired, weight sorted, Full length sized through rcbs dies
Bullet: Hornady 75 BTHP
Primer: CCI 400
Powder H4895
loaded increments of .3 from 22.4-24.2
Not even worth showing, but produced similar results was the same load with varget and then with hornady 68BTHP with powder charge 23.4-25.5. All groups over to 1.5 moa
I was really not happy with any of the results up to this point so I switched to 69smk.
Todays range report:
44 degrees
Wind was DEAD
Brass:LC twice fired, weight sorted
Bullet:69smk
Seating:2.260" oal
Primer:cci 400
Powder: H4895
23.7, 24.0, 24.3, 24.6, 24.9, 25.2, 25.5
Ignore group 33, that was just another test load.
I am very happy with today's groups. I finally have some consistency in groups and rotation.
group 27 and 28 come in at about .450 MOA. Although 28 dropped a bit, I think I'm going to be loading up my next batch a little over #27.
Even though it looks like 31 and 32 were tightening up a bit, primers were showing some high pressure.
Conclusion
although it doesn't seem to be too picky, it really likes the smks and prefers 4895 over varget. There have been reports that these barrels heat up quickly, I found the opposite to be true compared to other barrels i own. I will be loading up alot more of #27 and try it out next weekend at 200 yards and I will post results.
