Maybe there needs to be a glowie type list, genus and species if you will.
So far I’ve seen
Type 1 Baiting glowies - they ask things to entrap & get warrants (if such things are even used anymore)
Demoralizing Glowies- actions are in the title
Disruption Glowies- we’ll defer to @theLBC for more on them. They seem to haunt every thread he makes
Influencing Glowies - they subtly subvert ideologies and attempt ti swing others to their ideologies, or at least away from the proper ideology. Fudds inadvertently do this or facilitate it. They generally require support from Type 2 Baiting Glowies to prevent their bulls hit from being exposed.
Type 2 Baiting Glowies - they differ from the federalized type 1 in that they target individuals who act as a forums immune system and bait them into saying something that gets them banned. They are a “breaching force” for demoralizing and disruption glowies.

I've seen lots of trolls try and do their thing on all kinds of different platforms. Usually right before an election. I would seriously doubt that any of them have ever been able to sway a single person from voting who they were already voting for, or change away from their current ideology. So other than the "baitors" that working to get somebody to do or say something stupid online - I fail to see the point of all their efforts. Or maybe that's enough for them? They are getting paid for the efforts, and actual results do not matter?

Depending upon what glowie type, their presence can sometimes suppress certain conversations by certain people on various forums.
Over on the FCSA forum prior to the 2020 election they had themselves quite the Glowie. He had TDS, and a .375 ST with a 1:1 barrel twist, and to top it all off he was a former super tier 1 operator. After the election his account became inactive.
I think one of their roles is to be something that can be pointed to as "Abhorrent or Extremist Behavior" on the forums that can then be pointed to as representative of the whole group, thus allow media to paint a broad brush against a larger community.
They push the boundary, but not so far as to get banned. Shaping the information warfare space here is less about swaying us, but about swaying other to believe that we are the monsters here.
Our infamous NFA poster is an example of this. "Such and such a forum is being used to enable the illegal trade in machine guns. Look at this post". Where only the post is used and not the rest of the thread slamming the first post. For the curious few, a quick google search shows the post is real, but very, very few will go further and read the entire thread. And those that do are probably already red-pilled.

I probably don't frequent any of the forums that the weak minded would generally hang out in.... so I won't see what gets them to change their minds. Most places I go are 99.9% filled with people who support the Constitution, expect to keep their rights even if they have to fight for them, are personally responsible, and love their country even if the government is full of complete morons who are only interested in enriching themselves.

Wikipedia is last place I to go to for unbiased learning about a person or event.
