Yeah, saw that on Yahoo! News. The comments following the article were funny. One person wrote something about "all that gun powder could be used to make bombs and explosives!"
14,000 rds is < 18 cans (assuming 800 rd can). Sounds like an inventory error.

Sounds like 14 people took home a thousand rounds each, over time, and it finally added up to a number large enough to notice.
Heck, a box getting lost in the move to and from Afghanistan, or Iraq, especially with units coming and going every single year, that much is negligible. Most probably got shot up in-theater, and just didn't get accounted for there.

Yea this really isn't that bad. We would go through 20,000 rounds in a day shooting our heavies. A saw, 240, or 60 could eat 14000 rounds quick. This could just be an error.
