What kind of speeds can you get from the 80amaxs from this cartridge reasonably?

I've got maybe 500 rnds down the tube my guess is somewhere between 1200-1500 rnds before consistent flyers play into the accuracy some barrels may yield better or worse results I'm shooting a Hart barrel on my rifle.

22-243 35* 26" benchmark 75g Amax moly h4350---> 3690 & my barrel hates me. Getting ready to work up loads with H1000 & 4831sc 80g amax. I'm guessing it to be much slower, but accurate & easier on the gizzard area.

I run the 80 amax 3350 fps out of my 25" krieger 1:8 gun that Beanland built me. I use h4350 in it.

My old 22-243 I ran berger 80 vld's 3425 fps in a 26" hart 1:8. I used 7828ssc in it.

If you want a cartridge to perform more accurately and efficiently I would advise looking into a 22 Dasher over the 22-243. I have both and both are very accurate but that Dasher is way more efficient easier on the barrels and a pleasure to shoot.

I ran a 22-243 middlested as my coyote gun for a couple of years, recently switched to a 22x47 lapua. 80 grain vld @ 3410 with 38.2 grains of h4350. Both are very accurate, just wanted to try something different. congrats on your new build. ps. I havent experienced any ignition problems with the small rifle primers in cold weather, 0 degrees or warmer, fgm 205.

Awesome rifle. Looks like John builds a mean stick. I ran a .22 CHeetah for a few years on coyotes. You can and will be able to reach way out. Looking forward to a range report.

I honestly couldn't tell ya. I kind of baby them bc im only expecting 1200 to 1500 rounds. My new one has probably 300 rounds on it. I pretty much just check the zero every so often. Shoot a few 5 shot strings for practice, and then reserve the rest for hunting.

I think my old one I had around 6-700 on it... don't really remember. Sold it to a buddy of mine and he has put a couple hundred rounds through it with 80 smk's and it still stacks them quite nicely.

That's a nice stick. You're going to like that caliber too. I was loaned a buddies 22-243 and it just made me smile every time i pulled the trigger, it was faaaast and accurate. It's a lightening bolt on coyotes too, they just drop.

I can confirm that with him when I pick up my build on Tuesday. I asked him why he never hired helop and he simply said, "because then I wouldn't be building them". For the record, he hates his lead time, but refuses to comprimise his hands on approach for speedy delivery. I cant argue with that of the results of his work. I already have another build in line with him.

Roger that. I saw Shane's a while back, and it didn't help the "itus". It's between a 22-243 and a 22x47.

For those of you who know, what's the performance difference between the 22x47 and the 22-243? Close in speeds? Does on have a "slight" edge in barrel life, albeit short at best?
I considered both, but went with the 22-243 as is was a straight neck down of the .243 case and not much else in the way of case prep. I would think it would take a couple of neck downs to go from 6.5 of the parent case to .22
Any input?

Multips step necking down and turning for the 22x47. Although brass would probably last a life time. I think the 22-243 is the easiest alternative here, they shoot extremely well, and they fit in a standard sa mag box with no problem. If I wanted to do something different, I think a 22-6mm slr using cheap winchester 243 brass would be pretty saucy.

What kind of speeds can you get from the 80amaxs from this cartridge reasonably?

I've pushed them past 3500 with both H1000 and Ramshot Magnum. In my barrels I've found that both the 75's and 80's seem happier if kept around 3450 or so. Above 3500, I've had problems with bullets coming apart with a hot, fouled barrel or a barrel that's showing some wear. I only use the Amaxes in this round when I need the rapid expansion for small varmints. 80 grain Bergers have held up much better for me.

To the OP: Consider trying H1000 and 80 grain Berger VLD's. This combo has shot extremely well for me in several different barrels. I run 48 grains of H1000, CCI 200's, in reformed Win brass. Best accuracy is usually obtained with a very light bullet jam. Runs about 3500fps. Naturally, you'll need to start a few grains lower for safety reasons.

Love the 22-243! One of the true great wildcats out there. Really easy to reload for and you can use high end Lapua brass or cheap Winchester brass.
