Ok, so the wife and I have one on the way in January

. I have not purchased a small pistol safe yet cause its just been her and I in the house and there has been no real reason to have one. I got to looking, and damn there are so many choices. I would like one that is easy to get into if I need to, but not so easy that a todler can get into it. The pistol stays on my belt during the day and then in the drawer at night.

I am really leaning toward the Gunvault biometric safes

What do you guys suggest?

Do you guys like this idea?

Personally I'd be wary of the bio ones bc they scan incosisteny and is hate to need my gun and it not open. Simple push button combo or the finger push combo gun vaults would be the way I'd go (and did).

I used sheet metal and old lazy boy recliner parts to make a push lever foam bedded holster on my bed side. the lever is slightly outside the side board frame and the box is in between the box spring and side board. its all covered by the bed skirt (needed two slits for a flap to operate). The lever when pushed tilts and raises the holster to me. When closed two eyelets meet up so I can secure a lock when im away. But normally it stays empty untill I go to bed. so im always around the weapon and in control of it. All other weapons are locked in the safe. If I go out the pistol is either on me or gets locked up. My wife knows the code she can "check one out" and follow the same routine.
Her side has my old method, one of those concealment clocks with a lock hasp on it. No locks needed when in direct control. Just availible for secure storage . Small luggage locks duct taped inside both units.
Those quick deploy mini strong boxes are great for travel but really only a band aide to a full size safe. If you dont need it put it in the safe. cuts down theft and injury. If you need a home deff quick gun stay in controll of it, when your not, lock it up.

Anoher option, Our bed is near the bedroom closet and I have a serpa secured to the top shelf. ATM our boys are only 3 and even with the aid of a chair or such they still can't get to the top shelf. Inexpensive option while you think it over.

i would have to go 30+ foot to get to the closet...and who knows what i would trip over trying to get there with how my wife keeps our closet

i have had and will have in the new house the small wall safes that you cut into the drywall and mount to the studs. Very happy with them.

I would not use the biometric safe myself. They can be very temperamental. Once you have you print entered and it is working.
What happens if you cut your finger and have a band aid on? What if your hands are dirty or you have paint glue or anything on your finger that would make it impossible for the safe to read your prints. Believe me it wouldn't take much for the safe not to be able to read your print. If your fingers are just wrinkled from being in water to long even that can cause a problem.

I would definitely avoid the biometrics as people have been saying. Also I would recommend getting something that has a key option along with the keypad as electronics can always fail.

Those Gunvault bio metric safes are pieces of junk. The batteries burn out and they work like crap. The one I had ran out of juice so I pried it open with a pocket knife on the first try. Total junk.

I now have the Fort Knox beside safe. No batteries. Bolted down. I think it does have a brass locking bolt so it might be able to be pried open but it is DEFINITELY stronger than that shitty Gunvault.

I had a biometric gunvault and it sucked. Was very inconsistent. Have the standard one now and it works pretty well. It is not a safe mind you, it its a deterrent. Keeps kids hands off of it but would take two minutes to get in it.
