bedding question

Hi, new guy here. Question:
If im shooting factory match ammo and puting 10 shots into just under an inch is it worth glass bedding my rifle considering im not shooting handloads and my stock has an alluminum bedding block already. The rifle is a 5r milspec.

I'll bite! I wouldn't. Shooting handloads alone should tighten that group, and if you're not going to do that then I wouldn't waste the money trying to get factory loads to shoot any better than that. IMHP

That is question you have to answer yourself. If you are happy with the current performance of your rifle then why spend more money. On the other hand if you are wanting more then it most certainly is worth the investment. Remember most of us here are not going to be happy until our rifles are sub 1/2 moa capable (and some aren't happy until they get sub 1/4 moa).

Well it will shoot 1/2 moa with five shots, but the question is if it won't do that with 10 shots is it really a half moa? Of course I guess thats more room for error on my part too (planning on shooting some dif. reloads I just made next week to see if things get tighter)

So not to bump my own post but I learned somthing today talking to a local smith that I thought I should share. My question was is it worth glass bedding an hs precision stock because hs precision clames that its not necessary to glass bed or to bed the action with a bedding compound of any kind because of their alluminum bedding block design. And he told me he's bedded about 50 of these stocks and never seen one that it didnt improve so I guess it is worth it. In the name of accuracy.

Skim bedding never hurts, and there is an incredible tutorial here (top thread of the Gunsmithing forum). Do it yourself (if I can have it turn out well, trust me anyone can) and you'll both improve your rifle's performance and learn something in the process.

Thats kind of like the time travel paradox. And what number would you record for the number of times you shot them just after you load them...since you already shot them, again....

im still not shooting ammo i didnt buy last year. its possible. if you have an HS its pretty easy to skim bed. look at the post thats stickied in the gunsmithing thread. 11 pages and a really good read

If properly bedded, it is extremely unlikely to hurt the performance of the rifle, and very likely to improve performance. You gotta pick, but if it was me, I would bed it.

+1 bedding can never hurt accuracy if done right.

Just like a good trigger won't hurt either. Bedding is a piece of the puzzle for accuracy.
