Just ordered a boyds stock and it's going to need pillars. I also want to bed the action and lug, my question is do I do it all at once or pillars and then the action. Thank you for any advice you guys are super

I’ve always done it all at once. Lots of shoe polish as release agent. Lots of tape on everything else. Wrap the barrel in enough tape to keep it centered in the channel. Shove show wax into all holes you don’t want crap getting into.

Put it together where when it’s dry and just finger tight torque that it fits and functions nice as Simon said. Do this several time touching it as little as possible (it’s gonna have goo on it eventually, you want to make sure you can do it without making a mess and touching compound onto every other surface)

Then wet it with compound and redo.

Bond the pillars in place then bed it is probably the easiest. The other method would be to set the pillars up on bedding studs against the receiver and do the pillar setting and bedding all in one shot.
I tend to agree with this since you're a beginner.
Epoxying the pillars in place first (make SURE they're the correct length for your action/configuration) makes it a no-brainer as the barreled action will have it's elevation "set" by the pillars- all you need to do is relieve the wood all the way around to make room for adequate epoxy depth.

I do like the others here and do it in one shot because it's faster- but this method means you need to leave a small section of wood at the rear of the tang, and tape the barrel to get the desired clearance in the barrel channel and get the barreled action oriented correctly. IMO it's also a little easier to fuck up if you're not careful, I'd get some experience first before doing both at the same time.

JMOYMMV.
