Hello everyone,

I'm thinking about picking up a Remington 700 SPS Long Range in 7mm Rem Mag and changing the stock. I really like the adjustable B&C #2098, which their website says will fit the SPS with the heavy barreled long action.

My question is, is installing a new stock as simple as removing the factory stock, and then bolting in the new one? Will it need to be adjusted, or bedded in some way to true the barrel to the action, or is it just a drop in change? It seems the website claims this to be the case, but just curious if in practice it works the same!

Also--any opinions on this stock?

Thanks folks!

should be just the 2 screws, bedding may make a marginal improvement but definitely should not be essential

redhawk is a good vendor for B+C

Changing the stock is very easy. Try it out a few times before you consider bedding. Tighten it up with a torque and then check recheck after a few dozen rounds just to be sure.

No issues at all. Unscrew two screws, remove bottom metal, remove barreled action, put barreled action in new stock, replace bottom metal, replace two screws. Takes five minutes, super easy and well worth it!
Accuracy should improve just from the new stock without bedding.
Good luck!

Awesome, thanks everyone! I've removed stocks before just using the two bolts, but I always but the same one back on, so I never knew if swapping one out would be as easy.

Going shopping for the SPS tomorrow!!!

Re: Bell&Carlson stock on Remington 700 SPS

By the way, does anyone who has used one of these have any comment on how well the adjustments work/fit?

I'm 6'1" and always have felt like I've needed a higher cheek piece and a bit longer LOP to be comfortable. That is the main reason I'm grabbing a new stock.

Also, how does the weight of the B&C compare with the factory stock on the SPS long range version of the 700?

Fit and Feel are different from person to person...

The reason I always look to getting a Good aftermarket stock for my centerfire rifles is they are more rigid are weigh more... both good things when looking for accuracy.

I personally really like the B&C Light Tactical... because of the hook

Redhawk is actually selling a 7mm STW in a B&C stock on Gunbroker right now.
