Looking for some honest opinions of this setup, my dad is looking to buy a gun for hunting and shooting steel from time to time. He likes the price point on the Bergara as it leave plenty of money for good optics.
Any and all input is appreciated

My HMR is extremely accurate and an exceptional value.
The only issue I have is that it is heavy! Over nine pounds. Maybe too much to carry on a hunt that requires much hiking.
At the range, it performs comparable to pricey custom rifles

Ive got two people I’m friends with that are running them for PRS matches/coyote hunting and the rifles definitely shoot if they do there part. I personally get one if I didn’t already have a killer do all rig already.

My HMR is insanely accurate for a sub $1000 production rifle. It is a bit heavy, but you get a very rigid, accurate, and secure setup. Seems to be of much higher quality, features, and feel than my Rem 700 5r Gen 2 in the same price range.

My hunting partner has one, a Wilderness HMR model, and its an awesome rifle for not a lot of money. I really liked the stock, easy to set up for a specific shooter and get comfortable behind. It was grouping at .6 at 100 yards for him, I didn't shoot it for groups, just some short range (200 yds) steel. I've been going back and forth between picking up a Bergara and going the custom route. I ended up buying a used bighorn action, so that made the decision for me, but I'm still not entirely sure it was the right call. For what I paid for the action, I could have picked up an HMR and an afternoon worth of ammo.

I like them a lot better than the Tikka's (hunting partner also has a couple of those), in large part because of the stock. It doesn't sound like your dad is planning on doing a bunch of modifications and changing out all the parts, so the Bergara seems like a great choice. Really accurate rifle that comes with a nice adjustable stock, get a decent scope and your off to the races.

Maybe once I get a few rounds through the TL3 I'll forget about the Bergara.

A friend of mine picked one up in 6.5 Creedmoor on my recommendation recently. He had me order and mount a scope for him and zero it. I boresighted, shot 1 round at 100, measured with the reticle and adjusted. Next four shots went into the .1s. I mean one little bitty hole. This was with 147gr factory ammo. I guess I’ll keep recommending the HMRs.

I have one in 6.5 Creedmoor with a Vortex Viper PST GenII 5-25 and it shoots extremely well but as others have mentioned it is very heavy for anything other than the trek from the truck to the blind.

Can you'll RH stock be shot left handed ? Got so used to working a RH bolt with my left hand , it's the grip I'm asking about ? Is that ambidextrous ?
Got a friend in another state that has one, and is pondering on selling, he doesn't care for the 20" 308 Bbl.

The grip and comb are the symmetrical so it should be same right or left handed. The controls for the adjustable comb are on the right side, but that shouldn't interfere with shooting it left handed.

I have one and it shoots better than my last 2 savages so I’m pleased with it. With the XTR3 and Atlas on it the weight is a smidge over 13lbs if I remember correctly. I don’t think it’s heavy at all but your mileage may vary.
