I traded for a hmr b14 last year and worked up a load for it. Turns out it liked the 130 grain berger. I have been tossing around the thought of getting a 24 inch gun. I have read about the accuracy of the Tikka Ctr and the action being smooth. I understand that the Bergara pro has a smooth action and good also. I also rear that the Bergara was assembled by one person start to finish. If Anyone out there has any experience both of the rifles I would appreciate I put. Thanks in advance...

I have had the Bergara B14 HMR and currently have the HMR pro. I have a Tikka T3 stainless in 270. Can’t go wrong with either. I like all of them. But if you’re going to go for competition or load development, I’d recommend the HMR pro. This is a 5 round shot group. Rounds 31-35 out of the tube.

I’m shooting the HMR Pro in 6mm Creed. At first I thought I might have just gotten lucky given that mine is ridiculously accurate for a factory gun but I keep seeing the same results from other owners.
this is what mine did today at 200 yards with a bit of cross wind. The largest group of the day at 200 was 7/8”.
No doubt Tikka puts out a good gun but from what I hear it’s a bit more luck of the draw as to what you end up with. Bergara seems to spit out good barrels consistently.

Very nice groups guys. I bought the hmr I have used. It’s one of the easiest guns I have shot. Im on the fence about if the pro would Be worth changing. I’m wanting to shoot some heavier bullets but my hmr just doesn’t like them. Thanks for the responses.

Never heard “luck of the draw” and Tikka in the same sentence before.

Both are great guns, buy the one that has the best features and price in the caliber you’re looking for.

I am having this same internal argument as OP and am leaning toward the HMR (because I am LH the Pro is not an option)

For those in the know is the HMR fully a 700 clone? Will all 700 trigger upgrades, 700 chassis options also fit the Bergara barreled action?

I haven’t gotten time behind a tikka but always hear great things about them. I can speak for the hmr pro. First bolt rifle ever and boy it’s been a pleasure to shoot. This group is the kind of accuracy I’ve been able to get after working up hand loads. With factory ammo I was getting between .7-.5 moa. Trigger is great, action is great. My wife, who doesn’t shoot often, just shot a .6 moa group with me today. She did her part and took her time on the fundamentals but that rifle is accurate and sure makes it look easy

hahah what???stop. Tikka all day every day
That may have come off the wrong way. Tikka makes a great gun and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one. When I say luck of the draw I should have said luck of the draw as to just how good your gun will be. I don’t think there’s a dog in lot. Any Tikka will shoot sub moa with the right shooter and ammo. Just how tight those groups average will vary from rifle to rifle. As well as these guns are built these days we are splitting hairs with regard to what we can expect out of the box. Sure There are still some companies that really are luck of the draw. With Tikka it’s whether you get a good one or a really good one. I just think with Bergara you are mostly likely to get a damn good barrel.

I have both, a Bergara LRP and a Tikka T3. Both have been rebarreled w/Bartlein 6.5Cr. Both sit on chassis. Both ridiculously accurate, but that's the barrel. Never had a feeding, firing or ejection issue w/ the Tikka... easy, to me Tikka every single time, particularly if shooting matches. Neither compares to a custom action (Defiance, Impact, Curtis, Big Horn, etc) but in terms of reliability I choose Tikka every single time...

I have an HMR and a Tikka T3 heavy, stainless. I have had it forever. I like both guns, and prefer the smooth action on the Tikka, but prefer the trigger in the Bergara. Both shoot very well, no complaints- but the Bergara shoots better. Maybe that is me- as there is less recoil in my Bergara. I don't know. But both shoot amazing, and I have been debating back and forth myself on my next rifle. I am leaning towards another Bergara myself, probably in the new Wilderness series.

I just used my Bergara with Prime 130 gr for the first time yesterday. I liked the results far better than Berger 140 gr.
I use the 140's with my Tikka T3 A1 and get phenomenal results. The Tikka, out of the box and once setup, was hole-on-hole at 100 and I took it out to 600, for the first time in my life, with surprising results.

I am having issues with my groups with the Bergara, but I can't blame the action/rifle yet. I need to futz some more with myself to make any judgement. But the difference in ammo was noticeable enough for me to add to this thread.

When I used the 140's my groups of 5 were scattered circular around POA. The 140's, over several strings, were all straight vertical tracks. (100yds., no wind, spotty rain.

Funny side note - as it was raining, it eventually got to the point where I had to pack up quickly and haul everything to the car. I got home about xis hours later and found the Bergara barrel had, surprisingly, started to rust. To the point that it took oil and 0000 steel wool to clean up. All other rifles, and gear, simply needed a paper towel wipe down.
So if considering the Bergara, you may want to find out more about the finish as my situation may just have been a one-off.

I'm LEFT HANDED, been looking for a LH rifle to spend my stimulus $$ on., and was hoping for a one stop shopping. The Bergara offers a better stock and a DBM. They do not offer the capability of making an easy swap Bbl. with prefits. They do not off a 6CM chambering, and they need new bean counters, only 20" Bbl's on their 308's and would 2 more inch's on their 6.5 CM Bbl's break their bank.

I have a T3 and an HMR pro. I prefer the bergara, but probably because the t3 is stock. I could spend just as much as the bergara to upgrade the stock and trigger, and it would probably be a tie between the two. I wouldn't say there's any difference in accuracy though. The action is smoother and bolt lift is lighter on the bergara, which I love about it. Other than that though, I have nothing bad to say about tikka. If it were between the b14 and tikka, I would choose the tikka. The bolt on the b14 just seemed sloppy. But the premier action has tikka beat.

No experience with the Bergara, but have friends that like them. I'm a Tikka guy through and through, been shooting them for about 15yrs. From all the other factory actions I've tried, the Tikka comes out of the box smoother and tighter than any of them. I understand that the bergara may have a lighter bolt lift, but I have a feeling that has to do with the 90deg lift. The tikka is a bit heavier but makes up for it with the clean 60deg lift. I can run My tikka faster than most others with their 90deg lifts, and I don't have to worry about mashing my knuckles on a scope. If you're modding the rifle out, they both have excellent aftermarket support now, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I’ll just jump on the Tikka wagon as well. If I didn’t already have a 700 in .30-06 and at least access to one with a magnum bolt face I would have a Tikka to start messing with
