I’ve put 20 rounds through her and I like everything so far except the stock. I called Bergara and they offered to sell me one of their adjustable cheek piece stocks but I don’t like them... Looking for a McMillan HTG with adjustable cheek rest or the Manners equivalent. Does the Premier action have the same footprint as a Remington 700?

Bergara Premier Approach - aftermarket stocks

I have a b14 hunter and it fit quite nicely in a Mcmillan game scout that was inlet for a Remington 700 s/a r/h.I believe both those Bergara actions are the same.
Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but I would like to buy one of these premier approach rifles. Did you ever find out if the premier action has a R700 footprint?

It does, same as the B14 series. The Premier series differentiates itself in having a slightly improved action, fluted bolt that is easier to disassemble, stainless steel, cerakoted, assembled by one gunsmith in Georgia rather than Spain, test fired for Bergara sub-MOA standard with target and shooter's name provided.
I ended up calling Bergara and they confirmed it does have the same footprint. Same as you said. One thing that lead me away from Bergara Premier-- their CS told me an aftermarket barrel would not fit in the premier action. I was told only their barrels will fit into it. Sounded strange to me that a gunsmith couldn't thread a custom barrel into the premier action, but they said it would not work. Bummer, they are nice looking rifles with really nice actions.
Do you mean the stock or a barrel? They said it will fit any 700 stock. I was told I could not rebarrel with a custom barrel as it would not fit.
Rebarreling issue is because of their coned chamber and bolt but it really is a non issue when you consider they will rebarrel for $500 including stainless steel barrel cerakoted, labor, test fire to verify it meets same standard for accuracy, test target provided, and shipping and handling. Some folks on this forum had them even rebarrel and true it in different caliber chambering supposedly for the same price. Can't beat that. I know I'd be paying over $300 for the stainless steel barrel in cerakote with my local gunsmith alone, without labor, or test fire. That's not even mentioning that the Approach has a threaded muzzle and a regular rebarrel would not include threading, whereas Bergara will replace it with the exact same type of barrel that would cost you extra for threading with any normal gunsmith.

If you were talking barrel, I was gonna be ticked haha after talking to their CS! I would buy a bergara if they took aftermarket barrels!
The CS rep did mention that "they used to do that", but she made it sound like they were going to take a hiatus on re barreling to production stock taking precedent.
An aftermarket preft such as remage etc wont fit. You can have any smith cut the coned bolt nose recess though when they are fitting the barrel to the action, no problem, theyve been doing it for a century now. The barrels just wont be sitting on the shelf ready to ship that day like all of the prefit craze these days.
That is what I thought I read in another thread on the hide here. WHen I asked CS if a gunsmith could do it, I was told no.
Kind of bummer, I would have purchased one-- instead I went with a Seekins Pro hunter because the information I got from Bergara CS. I think I will be happy either way.

Haven't heard any of that, you might want to verify that with an e-mail and either address it to Joe Young, or Chad Gibbs at their customer service. On another note how soon are you planning on needing a new barrel? So far even though they took a hiatus on building custom rifles last year in favor of producing more Premier rifles they re-opened the custom shop this year. I can't see them abandoning their product rebarrel in the long run, cease for a while maybe but not stop it altogether, it would be a bonehead move after they worked so hard to establish their brand.
By the way Bergara got its start as a barrel manufacturer coached by Ed Shilen, they still supply barrels to many of the other rifle manufacturers, including some for AR15s. So as far as barrels on hand - they are a manufacturer. The barrels come from Bergara Spain so at the longest it might take until the next Premier rifle barrel shipment comes in from Spain.
No, she definitely said it would not be long-- made it sound like it would be up and running again well before the end of the year. Sounded like they are in a high demand for premier rifles and needed to catch up a bit. I in no way intended for my comments to come across as negative in any way. I really like the Bergara Premier my dad has-- its a tack driver!
Didn't come across as negative, we all want what works best for us. It would have surprised me though if they would discontinue that part of customer service and it would impact my choice for the brand of the next rifle, although I've heard there are some shops out there rebarreling Bergaras to specs now. I'd probably get a Shilen barrel to replace it if that were the case but like I said that would be one of the dumbest moves Bergara could possibly make here in the States.
