I just got out the berger 300s for some reloading. I starting measuring them and at a COAL of 3.681" it is giving me about a 0.150" jump to the lands. It put some red flags up as soon as I saw that and I am just wondering if this is normal or if I have an error somewhere. Thanks

300 win mag or 300 grain bergers?? Also bergers are always going to be long to get in the lands generally speaking because their bearing surface or ogive is usually a good bit farther towards the bullets base than say a smk. I've had great luck jumping in my creedmor but that's the exception to the rule for the most part. They usually like to be snugged up to the lands. You might have to single feed. Just my experience.

After reading the "Making it shoot" article on Bergers website and following their recommendations of .040" increments seating depth steps from 0 to .130 jump, I found the "sweet spot" they spoke of to be at .120" jump! I'd never have thought a VLD would shoot well that far off the lands, but with no further refinement whatsoever I got .9" group at 200, solid 1/2 moa. This is in my 338 lapua savage 110ba.

On my 110BA I measured COL as 3.883 with no clearance. Loaded to 0.050 off the lands and loved the accuracy I got out of it so looked no further.
