Bertram Brass 6.5 Saum

I missed out on there first short run of 6.5 brass so I bought the 7mm brass, necked it down and turned it. I just did a pressure test Saturday, I was able to get a little more speed compared to the Hornady before I hit pressure. Still need to do some load development then see how well it holds up.

$1.60 a piece. I hope it's well made. Does anyone have experience with any of their brass?

There are people on the 6.5 SAUM Facebook forum that have been testing it. Early reports are it has been doing as well or better than Remington brass. I have no first hand knowledge. I'm gonna wait until it's out in mass. Some of my Hornady brass only made 2 firings. A lot of weird pressure problems. Switched back to Rem and Norma and all my problems went a way. If only life were that easy :)

I have first hand knowledge on the Bertram 6.5 Saum brass. I was one of the lucky few that got to test it before it was shipped in. I've got 6 firings on the brass and I was using a stought load. After those 6 firings the primer pockets were virgin tight. The velocity was better with the Bertram over Norma that I had been using. They're doing a promo on brass coming up the 12 days of brass. Go check out there Facebook.

I can tell you that the brass is consistent.

I ordered my 200 pcs on 12/7 and got them in the mail today. Looks like good brass - flash holes look drilled and not punched. I weighed 50 pcs and stopped. Very consistent. Now that I have the brass I’m starting my build. Should be ready by next hunting season.

Started looking at these tonight as I got 200 in the mail recently. Will be prepping these over the weekend but I can already tell that the flash holes are going to need attention. Looks to be punched and quite a few that I looked at had partial blockage in the holes. Nothing a flash hole tool can’t fix

My brass has really rough looking flash holes too. Had to give them a lot of attention to get rid of the extra material in the openings. The necks are pretty uneven too, I had to turn them down to 14 thou to even it out. Also the weights aren’t very consistent. I’ve had 7-8 grains of spread from high to low, not just the occasional odd ball either.
All that said...if they hold up I can live with it. That damn Hornady brass is crap! The second or third firing the pockets were hotdog down a hallway loose. And that’s with a mild load.

Have seen the same thing on weights. On the SAUM Facebook page, several guys getting great results/sd’s and groups with this brass. Going to try some IMR 8133 in this stuff. Reports of it working better than H1000 and cleaner burning.

I ran a 21st Century flash hole deburring tool through all 200 cases and only removed a meaningful amount of material out of about 25 of them. Have you shot your new brass yet? I've only heard good reports from the range on it. My build isn't completed yet so.....

Have not shot yet. May get out this weekend but I’m going to prep them like I would once fired- flash holes (did this with the Lyman tool, got quite a bit out of them), FL size, run through a mandrel, trim, charge. Should have a good idea of how these will perform after that. Like you said, I have heard good things

164 no turn, 157 turned to 13...........i would double check the quality control on the brass depending on level of accuracy you want, its tough enough, just might not have great consistency....
