This. There is a lot of rhetoric and hyperbole on some actions, which you need to be cognitive of.
I should’ve added that you also can’t seem to be heard on those threads. You post a question or disagreement and you get ignored.
Here is some data on the most used actions among pro PRS shooters. “Best” can mean anything, but when you survey what the pros are using, seems like that’s a good starting point for what to look at. Is it ok then, to ask “why” anonymous online people think these pros prefer these actions?
Because most of them get them for free.
And they are not "pro's" - not a single one of them is a precision rifle shooter by profession. They are plumbers, Walmart greeters and dentists that happen to be good at a grassroots hobby that a very small percentage of the population shoots.
Take those "what the pros use" articles with a grain of salt. They are all good products for the most part, but what they use may not be the best product for YOU. Actions all have their own features and nuances - figure out what features you want and pick an action based on that.
Some of those shooters switch action companies every year, I wouldn't be blindly following what they do.

Sure they might not be a definitive ranking of the "best" but you would be hard pressed to find a poor choice in the PRB listing.
Especially since it basically mirrors the every day suggestions on this forum lol

They're all good actions more or less, that I agree with. However, just because Dave Preston uses a Curtis, doesn't mean that Joe B looking for an action should.
As I mentioned in my prior post, if you are in the market for an action, figure out what you like and dislike in actions, and what your specific criteria is.
Maybe you are looking for an action that takes AW mags, because you already have a lot of them - in that case, you probably shouldn't be using an Impact action, even though you see that a lot of shooters use it.
Maybe you hate the feel of a 60° bolt throw, then don't get a Curtis. Bighorn is popular, but you may hate the amount of slop in the bolt when it's all the way to the back of the action. If you shoot in really dusty conditions, the Defiance might be a disappointment - ask me how I would know.
And you're right, there's a lot of bullshit posts on here of people recommending actions, because people like to recommend the one they have, and probably don't have much experience with different brands of action. People love to feel validated about their purchases. There's also a lot of hyperbole and rhetoric about certain actions.
People need to be more strategic about how they pick their actions. They shouldn't pick and action because it's at the top of a "pro's list, nor should they pick it because there's a lot of senseless short and non-descript posts full of hyperbole and hype about a specific action. Choose an action that has the features YOU want and desire, and best of all, if possible, try as many actions as you can. What may feel good to me may feel shit to you.
Well said. A distinct difference in the "objectively best" (of which there isnt one at the top level) and the "personalized best".
Im going to struggle to articulate it here on the net, and Im not going after anyone in particular, but I just dont like seeing people say that just because maybe a person got something for free from a sponsor or switched it up from last year that their choice of a top quality action are invalidated and that the entire poll should be ignored. Its a census and provides a snapshot of whats popular and working for people at this point in time and provides a good amount of insight in to todays market for top level gear.
All of those choices are top notch and someone with no prior inclinations (personalized best) would be pleased with all of them.
I love my bighorn and I love my trued 700, one is mechanical ejection and one is spring plunger, one is push round and one is controlled round. The difference between them is moot as far as Im concerned.
(That said *flame suit on* I still like the ruger m77 markII best lol)

Surgeon Actions have to be the best because they are on infinite "BACKORDER". I believe by the time I get one we will have condos built on Uranus for every liberal.
I don't know what the best is but my favorite was a Surgeon. I don't have and haven't seen one of the new ones so I can't say if it is still my favorite or not.
I like, that it is round instead of having flats on it, that it is made of Chromoly, the way the bolt fits the receiver bore, a Remington style extractor being available, the integral lug, rail, and bolt handle, and a BDL feed port.
I'm glad I bought a Tempest despite all the people on here who think they're shit. I will never go away from AW mags now....
In regards to all the pro AI posts: it's one of the most limited platforms in regards to chassis and triggers, and while I would love to have one, it's just not in the cards. Switch barrel has never been on my list, largely because I don't trust it and also largely due to the fact that I'd rather just have another gun rather than be stuck to one action.

I’m new to this stuff, so forgive the dumb question. I notice the barrel says 6.5, but the mag says 6cm. Would a sponsor care and dictate that you shoot a 6.5cm over a 6cm? Also, what else am I missing?
The best thing to do, which may have been mentioned, is to go to a local match and play with people's stuff. Don't be an asshat that jumps on people's shit, just be willing to learn and ask questions. If you just bring up why they chose their certain action or scope, they'll let you play with it as long as they're not in the queue to shoot or busy fixing an issue.
They do AW cuts now.
I should mention, I love my Tikka. It's a great gun to this day.
Yea, but how do they feed? 2 lug typically don’t have as good of luck as 3 lug with AW mags.
It’s an old AW mag that was modified for 6 Comp Match...I just marked it so I knew which it was in a stack of them
theres no one who dictates anything i shoot...i shot my impact for the brawl this year, and my AT for silent night...likely be running the impact in NM

Just isn’t a drop in fit...have to extend to mag catches usually to get everything the right height
I’ve been running it for about 6 months, no issues once it’s set up right
One more point about lists of what the pros use is that some manufacturers make many different actions with many more options than others. So a manufacturer might be listed more prominently in a survey that doesn’t break down by options just because that manufacturer is competing in more spaces than others.
I keep a bottle of Ranson lighter fluid in my game pack because ALL actions (even AI) will start to stiffen and bind shooting in the dust. If he thinks that one binds faster that’s his opinion, but since there isn’t one that doesn’t do it I’d say that only people who regularly shoot in dusty conditions think of this as a major consideration.
I’d say it’s even less of an issue in an all suppressor squad, because most of the time I’ve had trouble in matches were on the prone stages where they line up your squad on the ground. The people with brakes throw shit right into your action. I now also keep a golf towel to throw over my action on stages like that. Sucks.
