I am currently looking for an ankle holster to carry. I usually carry my j frame IWB with a Bianchi but need something I can wear win dress pants and I haven't found an IWB tuck able that I like. I would like something that rides high and has a second strap at top. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Best ankle frame for j frame

I have the Fobus and the Galco.

Which I prefer depends on my footwear.

Over a pair of boots (doc-martens in my case), with boot-cut jeans, much prefer the Fobus. Its strap/fastening system is more secure, as the strap goes through a buckle and back over itself. The whole rig will kind of settle down onto the shaft of the boot where it flairs out fit over your tarsals/heel, and is very secure. The holster is molded plastic, and "snaps" around the trigger gaurd very securely. Excellent retention without any straps or snaps. The downside is this holster WILL settle down the ankle. That's why it works great with boots. With sneakers or dress shoes it's worthless. It it also a bit bulky.

The Galco is slimmer and will fit inside dress pants better. It requires extra retention from a thumbreak. It's straps are spandex, and require a lot of preload/stretch to get it secure on the ankle/calf. I believe Galco also makes a "garter belt" arrangment that keeps this rig from settling down your ankle. When I wear cowboy boots, I use the Galco INSIDE the shaft of the boot.

Re: Best ankle frame for j frame

I've worn a J frame in a Galco ankle glove for ten years now. Been in foot chases and jumped fences with it and its never failed me. I have the open top model with no retention and I don't have the calf strap. I wear it with a variety of shoes and boots, works very well. I carry a scandium .357 so it's relatively light revolver.

This man speaks the truth. I carry my S&W M&P 340 in one pretty much daily.

I have worn a Galco Ankle Glove for my S&W 638 Bodyguard ever since I bought
the gun, 4-5 years ago. I didn't like the holster moving up & down on my leg
when I ran, so I got the calf strap & the problem was solved. The AG for the
Bodyguard uses an adjustable tension screw instead of a thumbbreak, but it holds the gun very securely. The AG is the most comfortable ankle holster I have found. I bought another one for my Glock 26 for off-duty warm weather wear.
