I've got bore cleaner bottles as well as lubricants that all honestly might be outdated stuff, in the sense that there may be more state of the art products now on the market.

I want to throw them all out and start anew with nothing but the best, as opposed to having many that basically do the same thing, or are actually inferior.

While I fall back on the old stuff mostly (Hoppe's #9 bore solvent); I really like the bore foams. I use Outer's because it's the most easily accessible for me, but results are excellent, and I've had opportunity to confirm this with borescoping.

Mechanisms and bores respond well to basic Hoppe's oil. I use a basically unobtainable ultralight, non-gumming oil for triggers, and for bolts, either plain old petroleum jelly, or Tetra grease (it was embraced and shared with me by a dear friend who is now passed), of which I have a long term supply. For semi's I also fall back on the old stuff, Lubriplate/white grease, which is what I was issued for the M14 in Parris Island.

While I have no doubt the newer high tech geegollywhizbang 'systems' have merit, I know my stuff works, and see a lot of the hype as just that; marketing hype.

+1... Once again Greg and I see eye to eye. I happen to have a fairly large supply. Why get rid of it and have to buy more, if what I have actually works?

Well, I recently fell into the trap of trying something new. Bought a bottle of Bore-Tech carbon remover and a bottle of their copper remover. Was interested in trying solvents that are specific to certain jobs, rather than a combo one which does (or tries to do) both carbon and copper fouling. I've got to say that both are damned good, with the copper remover being outstanding. Also good for getting stubborn brass particles embedded in the bolt face out. I just put a couple of drops on a fouled boltface a couple of days back and couldn't believe how fast that crap dissolved - about a minute and no scrubbing involved.

Another good product they do is a solvent-proof jag and brush - no false 'copper' returns. I soaked them in the copper solvent to see if their claim was true and sure enough, it was. Some sort of coating they use.

Nice to hit some good stuff every now and then. It's true there is a lot of hype.

best bore solvent?? my opinion is white kerosene.. cheap and effective. wet the barrel with a cleaning wand, wait 10-15 min, then 10 hand with bronze brush ...

KG-12 to get out the Copper by dissolving it, this is the fastest:

If there is moly burnished into the bore, Copper on top of that can sometimes be removed in strips with a patch with a combination of Flitz and Kroil:

I lube with Tetra Gun Grease, 100% Synthetic Motor oil, Break Free CLP, or some places not at all.

I looked up and ordered some KG products as well as Eezox® Gun Care. Funny as to how many methods and products are out there that will pretty much do the same thing.

The military said Never never use...but diesel fuel will cut the carbon build up like nothing else. Wash it all off with you in the shower , wipe it down and dowse it all with oil. Take another shower yourself, let your kit dry. Have a beer . Relax LOL

FYI, Diesel, Home Heating Oil, JP-whatever...; they're all just pretty similar grades of kero.

In 'Nam, we siphoned diesel out of the trucks to clean, and used motor oil for lube/preservation. In a pinch, cooking oil for the stocks. We never really addressed copper fouling.

Ed's Red is good stuff, but while it does a good job of carbon removal and bore preservation, it's essentially ineffective for copper fouling.

The easiest, quickest, and most effective thing I've yet to see is the bore foam. Just be sure to oil the bore once you get it all out.

TM solution has my vote for all around use. I also use bore tech eleminator for heavy copper (my guns dont copper so not a big issue). I use butches gun oil in the bore after cleaning.

Yamalube(as in the outboard motor world) works well in a pinch. It's blue too. Makes it easy to see where it is. Or isn't.

I've used a mixture of Shooter's Choice and Kroil for years. Got the recipe from an old benchrest shooter.
