I just bought a new 243 with 1-8 twist from Adam built by RWS on a Defiance action.

Today I bought some 105gr AMax bullets for loading .

What's the best brass as far a quality and accuracy etc? Lapua would be my guess?

If its the best what would be your next choice?

I was thinking of Winchester Nickle plated? Any advantages to it?

Opinions welcomed.

Re: Best brass for reloading ???

I have always used Win brass but recently tried lapua and wow what a difference. Seem to hold up better than Win with no prep really right out of the box. If you can afford it and you aren't shooting matches go with Lapua. If not then Win will work and shoot just fine.

Going to have to try that when I get more 105's what is your load length?

Oh..... Umm I have had the best of luck with Hornady brass in my .243. Stay away from FC brass as it's junk. Just got some win brass so we will see how long it last.

Lapua will be next once I start to get low on brass.

FWIW,

I used 42.5 in Lapua case and got 3170 out of a 27 inch Brux. I would definitely work up to that though.

Re: Best brass for reloading ???

As stated above, nickel plated is junk. I wont use it in ANYTHING.

First is Lapua if you can afford it.

Never used nosler, so I can not speak to it.

Because I am more budget minded, I stick to Winchester when I need new brass.

I do reload Federal brass and have had no issues with it. I also reload with Black Hills Ammunition cases and find them very comparable to my Winchester brass.

Remington has been OK. I usually get an "extra" case now and then, which leads me to question their quality control. But, they do work for my needs.

Re: Best brass for reloading ???

Lapua is defenitely the best brass but for the money winchester is hard to beat. It does take a bit of prep but it only need to be done once, it has a much higher powder capacity, is always available and US made.
Hope this helps.

I heard somewhere BH uses Win brass.

It's made by Winchester and headstamped Blackhills. Same stuff.

Re: Best brass for reloading ???

So, food for thought. Several of us have said nickel plated is junk. Perhaps we should add in WHY it is junk and maybe why it was made?

My experience: the nickel plated brass tends to be harder and I get inconsistent neck tension. I also get far less reloadings from each case.

Re: Best brass for reloading ???

Nosler brass is beautiful stuff but the problem with it is its soft. On the bullet end soft is ok but on the primer end, soft, is a bad thing so if you're going to spend a premium price for brass why not buy Lapua brass and actually get a premium product.

In the long run, Lapua brass saves you time and money.
